Have you seen this?

'The way to get started is to quit talking and begin
doing.' - Walt Disney

One of my favorite quotes of all time from my
favorite entrepreneur of all time.

Walt Disney went bankrupt and also lost the rights
to his first big animated character - Oswald the
Lucky Rabbit.

What did he do? He kept moving forward and built
the most prominent entertainment empire of all time.

He tried things no one else dared to try. He made
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs when everyone
told him not to.

It became the top grossing movie of the year, won
an Academy Award and is regarded as the top
animated film of all time.

He dreamed of an amusement park like the world
had never seen - but no bank would provide a loan.

Instead of letting this stand in his way, he created a
TV show in exchange for getting a network to finance
his idea...and Disneyland became the theme park
by which all others would forever be measured against.

Today Disney's holdings do over 35 billion a year in
revenues - all because Walt took action on his ideas.

So let me ask you - what could you accomplish if
you just started 'doing' when you had a good idea?

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - I'm heading to the Kentucky Derby tomorrow,
but I wanted to remind you that the price goes up
to $299 on Fast Track this Tuesday, so if you're not

The 3 Things You Do NOT Want To Do

As far as I'm concerned there are 3 things you
do not want to do if you're interested in success:

1. Complain
2. Waste
3. Settle

Complainers are miserable to be around. Networking
is crucial to business success - and complaining is
a networking killer. Plus complaining sucks the
energy and passion out of you and everyone around
you.

Bottom line - quit complaining and start solving
problems.

Waste is a success killer too. You don't want to
waste time, waste opportunities or waste resources.

But what you may not realize is that waste happens
every day and goes unnoticed. Let me give you a
couple of examples:

If you enrolled a new client and didn't offer them
upsell, then you wasted an opportunity you don't
get back.

If you skipped a public speaking opportunity an
opted to just place a blurb in a newsletter - you
wasted another opportunity.

Every day provides you with opportunities to
choose how you'll spend your time and resources.

If you want success...choose wisely.

And finally there is settling. This is synonymous with
mediocrity. If you can be great at something, why
settle for being good? If you can be good, why settle
for being average?

My experience is that being great at something
doesn't require much more time than being good,
but it requires being smarter with how you're
using your time.

It doesn't take any more time to deliver a well
crafted sales presentation than it does to 'wing
it.'

The weekend is going to pass regardless of whether
you were doing yard work or attending a Perform
Better event.

Most people would opt for the yard work and think
they could learn just as much if they spend some time
on the 'net.

The really successful will be at the event.

Don't settle for being like most.

There you have it - the Big 3 things you need to
avoid on your path to success.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - On next Tuesday the price for Fast Track To
Fitness Mil.lions goes up to $299, so if you want
to attend and you've been procrastinating - it's
time to take some action:

Lessons From Baseball & Business

I spent the weekend in Ohio visiting friends and
family. While I was there I caught parts of a
couple of college baseball games at my old
University.

One of my favorite former players is in his 2nd year
as the head coach there now - and he inherited a
mess from the previous coach.

If it was a business it would have be about as stable
as the US auto industry.

So Ted (the coach) is in the 2nd year of the building
process and after spending a few hours with him
Saturday evening I was reminded of how similar this
is to what we do.

His success essentially boils down to two things:

1. His success at bringing people into the program.
2. Their success once they're in the program.

Sound familiar?

Thought so.

To be successful bringing people into the program he's
got to:

:: Target the right people

:: Give them a reason to choose him over the competition

:: Make the right offer

Once they're in the program, they need to achieve
success through doing well:

:: On the field (comparable to clients doing well during
sessions)

:: Off the field (comparable to your clients eating
supportively)

You're job as a coach or as a business owner is to
ensure that happens.

If all that happens as it should the people brought into
the program should become ambassadors for what you
do and make it easier to attract more of the right people.

These fundamentals work in building a baseball
program and they work in building a business.

All you need to do is apply them consistently and
success will be yours - no matter what your starting
circumstances are.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you're in the Midwest, Carlo Alvarez is
running an awesome Strength & Conditioning
Clinic on May 23rd (my B-Day). Only 75 bucks
and guaranteed to make you a better coach.

I'll be there. Brian Grasso will be there. You
should be there too...

Are You Ready To Take The Leap?

A few years back I was running the training in
8 clubs owned by the largest franchisee of Gold's
Gyms in the world.

Honestly, I didn't want to be an employee but I
knew that when I'd taken the job I wasn't ready
to own my own business.

So I treated the time I was there like I'd have
treated Med School or Law School and studied
everything I could in order to make me better.

For me working there was Fitness Business
School.

Honestly, it's probably the only job I've ever had
that I didn't really enjoy - but I knew that I wanted
to own a successful fitness business and I knew I
could learn from them.

Not everyone that works for someone else aspires
to own their own business - and entrepreneurship
isn't for everyone.

But if you do want to own a business - are you
studying everything that's going on around you?

Are you going as doing what I called 'Reconnaissance
work' in other clubs and studios?

Are you coming to events like Fast Track?

See, for me that job was about paying my dues to be
a successful business owner.

For most people a job like that is just about paying the
bills.

If you're about to jump to the next level - be it from
employee to business owner or from in home trainer
to owning a facility - be sure to look at everything
as an educational opportunity.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - I've just reviewed the Top Level Trainer Program
and it's the real deal. Perfect for fitness pros making

Where Are You Leaving Mo.ney On The Table?

Every business that I've encountered over my
time in the fitness industry has left mo.ney
on the table.

Sure, some leave less than others but every
business leaves some.

So what I'm going to do today is give you a
way to view your business that will allow
you to instantly see where you can improve
what you do and create that additional
stream of profit.

If you've followed my stuff for a while
then this will look familiar to you. That's
O.K. - It merits repeating (over and over.)

Nick and I evaluate our businesses regularly
with this same template to see where we can
improve. Here it is:

Basically, the way that we view any business
is by plugging it into this simple flowchart.
There are six steps that we believe any successful
fitness business should have, and they are what
comprise the flowchart.

Each step is listed below with a brief explanation.

Step 1 - Lead Generation.

Simply how you generate your prospects. Advertising,
marketing, referrals, publicity and anything else
you can think of that helps you generate leads.

Step 2 - Sales Process.

How do you go about converting the prospect into
a client? Is it a tour of your facility? How about
a fitness assessment? List the details of
whatever you do here.

Step 3 - Closing Process.

The actual conversion of a prospect to a client.
List the details of your closing process here.

Step 4 - Upsells and Cross-sells.

Do you have an instant upsell when you close
a deal? People are far more likely to purchase
additional products or services at this point
than at any other. Look at any successful
retail business in the U.S. All of them try to
get you to make an additional purchase at the
point of sale. Do you?

Step 5 - Back end Opportunities

Once someone has become a member or client, do
you have follow up offers in place? If you've
provided great service on their initial purchase,
you current clients or members will happily
make additional purchases from you. What are
your back end opportunities?

Step 6 - Referrals and Retention

Happy clients are your best source of new prospects.
Do you have a system in place to take maximum
advantage of this or do you just hope for good
'word of mouth?' Do you have a retention strategy
or do you just hope you keep people staying and
paying?

That's it. Plug your business into this model and
evaluate where you do well and where you need to improve.

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - What's not listed there is specifics about
providing a great service. Without that - all the
above is pointless. With that in mind - if you use
Kettlebells in your training, watch this:

The Two Most Important Attributes

I thought that today I'd shift gears a little and
talk about what I think it takes to be a successful
fitness entrepreneur (or a successful anything,
for that matter).

While I believe that there are many attributes
that go into being successful, in my mind there
are two that stand out above the rest:

The Willingness To Take Action

The Ability To Persevere

Sure, having intelligence is important, but I know
plenty of broke, smart people.

Often, they are "too smart for their own good" and
think they can always beat the system and never
have to put in the sweat equity necessary to succeed.

Having knowledge is great too, but I've run into
plenty of trainers and coaches that have every
letter of the alphabet after their name and
will swear up and down that they know as much
as "that Cosgrove guy" but strangely enough,
they don't own a tremendously successful
facility, have a dozen products out and aren't
in great demand to write and speak.

Having talent / potential is nice too. Some
things come easy for people...good for them. But
I recall back in my coaching days - I'd go
recruiting and all the other coaches would be
raving about this guys potential or drooling
about the players time on the stopwatch.

I never was too interested in all that...I
wanted people who would perform. Ironically
enough, my "performers" would almost always
kick the crap out of their "potential."

Holds true outside of sports just the same.

See, most people are unwilling to take real
action. They're "security people." Unfortunately,
opportunity and security are inversely
proportionate.

You know the deal...no risk, no reward.

It's no different than people saying that
"they'll start eating right next week" - only
next week turns into next month, then next
year.

Every successful achievement begins with a
decision to take action.

I can't tell you how many people I know that
throw out good (or great) ideas for books,
businesses or products - that stay just that - an
idea.

I know plenty of successful / wealthy people
that I consider to be of average intelligence...but
they took action and continue to take action.

I'll be the first to admit, there have been
times that I've considered doing something,
only to get distracted, get lazy or simply
take the path of least resistance - do
nothing.

But every success that I've enjoyed has been
a direct result of me making a decision and
taking action.

The second part of this equation is having the
ability to persevere.

I promise you that if you launch your own
business, take on a new project, embrace a
new challenge...there will be stumbling blocks
along the way.

Construction will be delayed, visitors won't
come flocking to your site like expected, a
marketing campaign will bomb, a key employee
will quit.

You name it - it will happen.

Oh well. That's part of the deal.

I know a guy that has come up with (at least)
three separate business ideas, acted on them
and laid the groundwork to get them started
and invested a significant amount of time,
energy and mo.ney to bring them to launch.

Each time he has moved on to his next "great
idea" without even recovering his initial
investment in the previous venture.

The thing is, any of these businesses could
have been lucrative. They were all good ideas
in niches that there was little or no competition.

Each time I said to myself: "why didn't I think
of that."

But he (and my others) couldn't handle adversity.
When the customers didn't trip over one another
coming to his sites or businesses, he folded.

Let me tell you...I don't care how many great
ideas he has - he'll NEVER have success with
them until he's willing to "weather the storm."

So that's it - my two "secrets to success" that
anyone can utilize to achieve their goals. Nothing
profound, but most of the best "stuff" is simply
common sense.

Pat

Don’t Focus on the Mo.ney

If you are in the pursuit of mo.ney for mo.ney's
sake - and that is your main focus - no matter how
hard you work it will elude you.

Mo.ney is simply a currency for trading value or
benefits. The sooner you take your focus off mo.ney
and place it on delivering a better service, a more
valuable product, a desired result or a tremendous
benefit to the market - the sooner you'll start making
real mo.ney.

The amount of mo.ney you'll make will vary according
to the uniqueness of your offering, the greatness of
your service and the size or demand of your market...but
the concept remains the same.

Delivering greater value = reaping greater profits.

You can't focus on your clients or customers if you're
focusing on the mo.ney.

Mon.ey is the by-product of delivering value to them.

If you deliver extraordinary value - people will pay
significant amounts for the privilege of using your
service or product.

Help others get what they want. In turn, you'll get
what you want.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

done-for-you, ready to use bootcamp workouts that

Don’t Let Time Pass You By

Summer, 2002...I was a trainer in a chain health club.

I had left my position as a Baseball / Strength &
Conditioning Coach at a University and decided to
start down the path to what I hoped would be
business success.

$12 per hour...that was the starting wage when I
took the job.

It was fine by me because I *knew* that I needed
to step out of my comfort zone to ever reach my
goals.

Fast forward to Spring, 2009.

We've just launched Athletic Revolution - a franchise
that will change the world of youth fitness.

We just announced the upcoming launch of the
Association of Professional Personal Trainers - an
organization that will provide career paths and
help to thousands of trainers.

I've been fortunate enough to become a Co-Owner of:

:: A successful health club
:: Several training companies
:: The IYCA
:: A consulting company serving thousands of fitness pros

I've been able to become an author...we've held events
and are involved in soooo many other things.

Summer 2002...$12 per hour.

I don't profess to know exactly what your goals are,
but I'm gonna guess that you're no farther from them
than I was from mine.

I'm sure that most people I told my plans to thought
I was full of crap. There were about 10 trainers in that
club and I'd guess at least 7 aren't even in the industry
anymore.

I met people, attended seminars, read a lot and worked
my butt off.

I've been able to forge partnerships and relationships
that have opened countless doors.

All stuff that you can do.

We're probably a lot alike, except that you're most
likely better looking, smarter and in better shape;)

I just wasn't willing to let time -and opportunities
pass me by...and I feel as strongly about that today
as I did then.

Are you going to let time and opportunity pass
you by?

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - The most important thing you can do for
your business and the attainment of your
professional goals in the next 2 months is to
attend Fast Track To Fitness Millions LIVE.

Enroll here:

http://www.fasttrackfitnessmillions.com

You'll be able to learn systems & strategies.

You'll build lucrative relationships.

You'll be among the first to have the opportunity
to join the APPT.

Yep - it's probably a good idea to attend;)

Do you have a good answer? You must if you want

Are You Killing Your Business?

OK - Off to Minnesota for the day to meet with Chuck

Are You Thinking Big?

Being around so many ultra-successful people
has reminded me of something vital to your
success:

They're no different than you.

They're the type of person you went to school
with and were on teams with.

They just didn't settle.

They though big.

I remember back when I took the baseball
coaching job you've heard me talk about.

I thought about achieving a lot of things:

Going to the World Series - got there.

Winning a certain number of games each
year - got there.

Becoming a nationally competitive program
year in and year out - got there.

Funny though - when it came to mon.ey I
remember thinking "I'd be happy if I could
just make $30,000 a year."

I got there too.

Wasn't all it was cracked up to be;)

So I decided that I shouldn't settle and I
should think bigger.

I'm pretty happy with how that's working
out for me, but let's talk about you.

Are you thinking big enough?

Is there untapped potential in you waiting to
get out?

My guess is yes.

The super successful people I've met are all
smart and hard working...but so are you, right?

So the difference is that they thought bigger
and they were unwilling to settle.

Based on my experiences, this mindset is
often the difference between the ordinary
and the extraordinary.

Which will you be?

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Come to New Jersey this May and change
the way you think about your career forever...

How To Stay Poor - Guaranteed

The two biggest enemies of success are comfort
and arrogance.

Both will cripple your desire to learn and grow.

And when you don't learn and grow, success will
not only be hard to come by, it will completely avoid
you.

The fact that you are reading this email means you
understand at least part of this message. But reading
a few emails is hardly enough.

There are countless trainers who feel that even if
they don't know it all, they know enough. They
don't, or won't make the effort to continue learning
because they're too comfortable. Without real pressure
failure they won't do anything different.

This is a certain path to lifelong mediocrity.

And then there are the arrogant...

They feel as if there is nothing someone else can
teach them. They're too smart for seminars, coaching
or any other continuing education.

It's only a matter of time before those folks go under.

I'm in Idaho with several business owners who
own companies that do 8 figures a year.

Multi, multi-mil.lionaires.

And they all came to Idaho to learn from one another.

That's what successful people do.

If you want to be like them, do what they do.

If you want to settle for mediocrity, you don't
have to do anything.

Just stay in your comfort zone.

Which will you choose?

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Step out of your comfort zone and spend
3 days with us in New Jersey this May. You won't
regret it;)

Two things to start your week

I'm in Idaho getting ready to meet with some of
the best marketers in the world so I'll make this
quick.

Here is your fitness marketing time saver to start
your week:

http://tinyurl.com/cvg9yc

If you've read this newsletter for any amount of
time you've heard me talk about Alwyn Cosgrove.

We did a product together a while back and I
consider Alwyn a good friend and one of the best
coaches and fitness business minds in the world.

You may or may not know that Alwyn is a Two-time
Stage IV cancer survivor, having beaten lymphoma by
undergoing high dose chemotherapy and a bone marrow
and stem cell transplant.

To help the fight against cancer, Alwyn put
together an incredible collection of articles
and programs from the world's best trainers, with
ALL proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.

It's called, "Lift Strong", and it's one of the
best investments you'll ever make.

Grab your copy here:

It's gonna be a great week!

4 Fr.ee videos for you

Hey aff -

Yesterday I mentioned that Dr. K had some cool
fr.ee info on generating medical referrals.

I didn't realize how generous he was being and
that he was giving away 4 fr.ee videos.

Check them out here:

http://unlimitedmedicalreferrals.com/

You can fill your entire training schedule
if you get medical pros sending you business,
so be sure to follow his advice.

Oh, BTW - Jim, Nick and me are off to Idaho
tomorrow to mastermind with some of the best
minds in internet marketing.

I'll keep you posted on what we learn.

Have a great weekend!

5 Fast & Inexpensive Ways To Grow Your Business

Fitness pros ask me all the time about ways they can
grow their businesses without spending much mon.ey.

There are dozens of options, but here are 5 to get you
started:

1. Ask for referrals from your current clients and
members of your network.

2. Develop relationships with a core network of other
businesses or professionals.

3. Call or visit local small businesses and offer fr.ee
lunch and learns for their employees.

4. Reach out to former clients and make a special offer.

5. Call local Non-Profits and offer a fr.ee workshop.
This is just a fraction of what you can do, but really
the key is just doing something.

Choose 3, 4 or 5 marketing tactics and really WORK
them. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how well it
pays off.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - My good friend and medical referral guru Dr. K
has put together some fr.ee medical referral videos
that you want to watch. He is the expert when it
comes to building profitable relationships with
the medical community and we've even had him do a
guest webinar for our Bootcamp Blueprint Clients.

Do yourself a favor and check out his videos here:

The medical community is an untapped goldmine and
Dr. K is the guy to show you how to tap into it!

Is Licensing a Good Idea?

Licensing for fitness professionals has become
a hot topic as of late.

There is a bill in the New Jersey State Senate
called the "Fitness Professionals Licensing Act".

Check out more about the impact this bill and
licensing in general could have here:

http://patnickandjim.com/fitness-professionals-licensing-act/

Let us know your thoughts.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - I'll be back Thursday evening with a couple
tips for you;)
