What Are Your 2009 Goals?

I just returned from Disney World with Holly
and Tyler and am getting caught up with the
work that piled up while I was gone (not too
much, I'm happy to say).

One of the things that I'm spending a lot of time
on over the next couple of days is planning / goal
setting for 2009.

I've always been big on setting specific goals, but
this year it's become even more of a priority
than ever before.

Here's a sample of some of the business goals that
I'm working on for 2009:

:: A 300% increase in IYCA Membership.

:: A 300% increase in PTU Membership.

:: 50 Youth Fitness Franchises sold.

:: A 400% increase in Holly's FYM Revenue.

I'm setting specific revenue and membership goals
for every program we offer, specific goals for
new offerings and business divisions and even
goals about the amount of content that I create.

And that's just a fraction of the goal setting and
planning that I'm doing. I'm also mapping out
an action plan to achieve each of these goals.

Hopefully, you're doing the same. You're setting
specific goals about the things that you want to
achieve and you're mapping out a plan to get there.

If you are and would like me to take a look and
give you some feedback - just shoot them over
and I'll get back to you over the next few days.

I'm looking forward to working with you to
make 2009 the best year yet!

Happy New Year!!!

Pat

Your Business Audit

On the flight back from Disneyworld I was
looking through the latest issue of Men's
Health and came across an article titled:

You: The Whole-Life Audit

They've picked the biggest experts in the
world - fitness pros, doctors, nutritionists and
financial experts to provide advice on how
you (the reader) can make 2009 their best year
ever.

They named 8 fitness pros to their expert panel
and I am happy to say that 5 of the 8 have
leaned on us for business advice.

Pretty cool.

But this isn't about tooting our horn (well maybe
a little) - it's about how the people at the top of
the profession think.

They're the first people to enroll in workshops.

They're the first guys to invest in new products
and programs.

They're the ones with the biggest Amazon.com tab.

They're the first to lean on other experts.

They are never the guy saying a program, product
or seminar costs too much - they're thinking about
how much more mon.ey they'll make by investing in
it.

If there is one thing you can do to ensure your success
in 2009 - it's model the fitness pros that are where
you want to be.

Being a success requires more than that - but it's a
heck of a place to start.

Find out how much time they've put in.

Discover what they've studied and figure out
how much they've invested in their education
- both in time and muney.

Research how they've positioned themselves and
what type of service they provide.

Find all of this out and emulate it.

That single action will propel you ahead of 99%
of the rest.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Most of the leading fitness experts in the
world are leaning on Jim, Nick and me to guarantee
they're business success. If you want to as well -

What Are You Doing?

What are you doing in this last week of
2008 to make 2009 the best year you've
ever had?

Have you written down your yearly goals?

Have you broken them down into midrange
goals - 1-3 months?

Have you broken those down into specific
tasks that you can accomplish on daily or
weekly basis?

Here's a simplified version of this process:

Yearly Goal: 100K in Bootcamp Income

Monthly Goal: $8333 Monthly Income

Action Plan: Average camper spends $250
per month to attend camp, therefore I need
34 campers per month. To obtain these 34
campers I will:

:: Send a press release 2X month to local media.

:: Do a minimum of 2 monthly speaking
Engagements

:: Add a minimum of 3 new people to my
network each day.

:: Send a weekly e-mail newsletter

:: Implement 3 referral systems

:: Pass out 2 f'ree trail passes each day

Obviously, this is very simple, but it's
a heck of a lot more thought than most people
put into planning their next year.

So sit down and map out your goals for 2009.

Then develop a plan to make them happen!

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - There are few things more powerful than
having a team to work with that will help you
stay accountable and give you a forum to test
ideas. You'll find all of that right here:

Off To Orlando

We flew from KY to Orlando yesterday and will be
hanging out at DisneyWorld until late Monday.

I've yet to step foot in the park other than our resort
but have already witnessed two drastically different
ways businesses go about running things.

Disney has:

:: Sent us itineraries

:: Provided luggage tags for our bags so they could
pick them up at the airport

:: Made a courtesy call before we left home to make
sure we we're 'all set'

:: Been an experience in dealing with REALLY
friendly people

This was all before we event got to the resort...nice.

On the other had...the airline:

:: Was running late as usual

:: Now charges for things that used to be complimentary

:: Had rude employees

Basically it can be summed up like this...the airline
acts as if they're doing you a favor by letting you
travel with them.

Disney acts as if you're doing them a favor by visiting
their park.

If I we're you, I'd be taking a page out of Disney's
book when it comes to how you treat your clients.

Their business seems to be doing ok;)

Have a great weekend!

Balancing It All…

Last week super trainer Becky Williamson
inquired how a juggle the various projects
that I have going on.

I get this question a lot and it usually makes
me laugh.

I know a lot of people more organized than
myself.

I look at them and think how cool it would
be to have all the neat, color coded tabs for
everything and for the desktop of my computer
not to look like a disaster area.

But what I'm figuring out is that there are a
lot of people just like me that want to get things
done but may not have the perfect filing system.

So I'll share what has worked for me, but I'm
guessing you'll have to modify things a bit to
fit you.

Here goes:

:: I map out all my days the night before. The days
I don't do this - my productivity drops by more than
half.

:: I carve out plenty of time to work on 'high return'
tasks and projects. If something gets missed, lost,
or pushed back - it's almost always because it wasn't
a priority.

:: I put together action plans and detail out projects.
This allows me to break big projects down into
manageable tasks. Otherwise they seem 'too big'
and never get done.

:: I put in a lot of time. I don't know any successful
people that don't.

:: I block time for projects. I may spend 50 mins on
one thing and then move to something else. Otherwise
it seems like projects expand to fill all the time available.

Finally - the biggest one:

I do what I'm good at and work with people who do
what they're good at. We're always more productive
when we're doing what we enjoy - and I've been
fortunate enough to build my career so that almost
all my time is spent that way.

That's it really. Nothing magic. I've just figured
out what works for me and keep looking for ways
to improve. Google docs, Gmail and Google Tasks
and Google Calendar have all helped make me a
little more productive.

Take these tips and tweak them to make them work
for you...and strive to keep getting more done.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you want to be more productive, be accountable.

No better place for that than PTU.

His Best Year Since He’s Been In Business

Before we get into today's e-mail...yesterday
1shoppingcart was having some issues, so
my newsletter didn't go out. If you'd like to
read it, I'll have it posted it on the blog later
today:

http://www.strategicfitnessprofits.com

OK - on to today's...

A couple of days I received a message on
Facebook from Todd Lowder, a long time
customer and friend.

He was looking for a link to a product we
offer and was kind enough to give me an
update on how he's doing. Here's a bit of
what he said:

"By the way, did I mention that I just closed
this years books and while only working 3 days
per week my company had the best year in
it's 10 year history."

So I shot Todd a call to see what he's been
doing to achieve this kind of success while
a lot of people seem to be struggling.

Here's what he told me:

:: He's been willing to put in the time to create
systems. Now he only trains about 19 hours
per week. It took a lot of effort, but it was a
must to take his business to the next level.

:: He's gone out and made things happen.
He's done 8 Lunch & Learns with doctors
in the past year. That's just one of the dozens
of things he's done to grow his business.

:: He's applied what he's learned. He was
part of the Trainer's Inner Circle and has
studied some people outside of the industry
- but the key has been applying what
he's learned.

:: He uses the power of leverage. Not only
does he do adult and team camps, but he also
has 7 employees applying the systems he's
created.

I could go on and on...but the bottom line
is that while plenty of other people have
been complaining about the economy or
their circumstances, Todd has made 2008
his most successful year ever.

And the best part, none of what he attributed
his success to was *magic*, just developing
a plan and relentlessly working the plan.

Now, in Todd's own words - he has a real
business. Not just a job.

Hopefully you're doing a lot of the same
things Todd's doing. If so, I can't wait to
hear about your success too!

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Todd attributed a lot of his success
to his business education, namely his experience
in the Trainer's Inner Circle. If you want to
really ramp up your business education, there is
no better place to start than PTU:

Increase Your Progress by 200%

You've undoubtedly been told that one of
the keys to success is to learn from your
mistakes.

Very true.

But this can be a time-consuming and costly
approach for getting to where you want to be.

So let me share a secret to get you there 200%
faster:

Learn from others mistakes.

Let me give you an example:

I went home to visit family & friends in Ohio
this past weekend and while I was there I stopped
by the University where I used to coach to visit
with one of my former players who is now the
head coach.

Ted, the current coach, is going to be far more
successful than I ever was. He's doing a great
job in every aspect of building the program.

As an interested observer, it's obvious one of the
most important things that he's done is that he's
been very diligent about learning from the mistakes
of previous coaches (me included) and not
repeating them.

That was the same approach Nick and I took when
we launched out training business.

Both of us had worked for bigger training companies
that provided us with countless opportunities to
learn what worked...and what didn't.

No doubt - this was crucial in us becoming very
profitable very fast.

So if you want to fast-track your progress take the
time to learn from those that have gone before you.

Emulate what they've done well...and avoid what
they haven't.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Want to learn from what we (and hundreds of the
top fitness pros in the world) have done well...and
what we haven't? Then you need to be part of PTU.

Are You Pi&$ed Off?

Are you comfortable with your current situation?

Are you settling?

Settling for your current income.

Settling for the number of clients you have.

Settling for your current home.

Are you in a comfort zone?

If you want to quit treading water, get mad.

Get pi$$ed off.

Get mad at mediocrity.

Don't settle for less than you deserve.

If you didn't make as much as you wanted

in 2008...you should be a little mad about it.

Then use that anger as fuel to drive you to be better.

Let it push you to step out of your comfort zone and
work a little harder.

Create new programs.

Make the changes that needed to be made.

You deserve to be successful, so you should be angry
if you're not there yet.

So get a little mad today...then make the changes that
will lead you to success.

Christmas Comes Early

Holly, Tyler and I are off to Ohio to visit
my family for the holidays.

We're going a bit early this year since we're
going to Disney World on Christmas Day.

I have to say, I'm excited to go home.

I don't get to visit as often as I'd like, so
I'm looking forward to seeing my parents
and celebrating Christmas.

We all need supportive people in our lives
to achieve success - and any bit of success
that I may have had along the way is in large
part a reflection to the support of my parents.

My mom is, without a doubt, the nicest, most
supportive person I've ever met.

When I went into coaching at 23 and most everyone
expected me to fall flat on my face...she was sure
I'd succeed.

When I wanted to start my own business...she
was as supportive as could be.

My dad...he's a bit 'crustier' but has always been
there to help me try to achieve whatever it was that
I set out to do.

He's done everything from donate muney to my
baseball program and help make improvements
to the field back when I needed that to offering
valuable advice as I went into my own business.

I'm pretty fortunate.

Hopefully, you've had the same type of support
from those around you as you've tried to
achieve your goals.

Without it, I don't know where I'd be.

In fact, that's a big reason why I started writing
these e-mails.

We all need a little support from time to time.

Feel fr.ee to lean on me for support when you
need it.

I'm certain that you can be as successful as you
want to be...so if you need to lean on me to remind
you of that now and then - I'm more than happy to ;)

Enjoy the weekend!

Pat

P.S. - I'm thrilled that so many of you have
followed me on Twitter and friended me on
Facebook over the last couple of days.

I've already gotten to learn more about what's
going on with many of you and look forward to
getting up to speed on what's going on with
many more of you next week. If you haven't
connected with me on Twitter and Facebook,
please do so I can learn more about what's
going on with you.

My Magic Formula

So here is my Magic Formula that has been the
foundation for success in both my coaching career
and my career in fitness:

1. Have a passion for what you do.
2. Study everything you can.
3. Work your butt off.
4. Learn from your failures.

I always wanted to be a baseball coach. Loved
baseball and still probably read more about baseball
than anything other than business stuff today.

When I got a chance to coach I bought every book
and video that might have a remote chance of
helping me improve. Once I quit coaching, I shipped
a box with about 2/3 of all that stuff to one of my
former players who had gone into coaching...it
weighed over 50 lbs.

I traveled to clinics all over the country and worked
camps at schools which had programs I wanted to
model.

Then I put in more hours than I care to remember.

In fact, I never took a vacation during my entire
coaching career.

I figured that I wasn't going to beat anyone with
Strategy, I had no experience...I needed to have
better systems and work harder at recruiting. That
was our only chance.

As far as mistakes go...I didn't really dwell on
losing. In fact, it usually drove me to get on the
phone and start recruiting even harder.

As a coach...the easiest way to win more games?

Get better players ;)

The formula worked even better when it came to
running our own businesses...

As a business owner - if you have passion for
what you're doing and pour yourself into learning
to be better at your craft - you're going to be
successful.

If you love what you do, you're not watching the
clock and putting in the time and effort seems
easy.

And if you really enjoy what you are doing,
failures are nothing more than learning experiences
that prepare you for success.

So there you have it...my Magic Formula.

Not much magic to it, but I promise that if
you follow it you'll enjoy the results.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

Do You Have Passion?

Late last week I got a random phone call from
a gentleman named Jim Flanagan.

I was a bit caught off guard to say the least.

See, Jim was Arthur Jones' right hand man
way back in the early 70's.

He also opened the first ever Nautilus Fitness
Center.

In fact, his first coach was one of the true
pioneers of weightlifting in the U.S. - Milo
Steinborn.

Well, like I said - I was caught off guard by the
call. It's not every day when you get to talk to
someone that was that involved in pioneering
something as big as Nautilus.

I have always found Arthur Jones to be one of the
most fascinating people in the history of the fitness
industry.

He was a true pioneer and a mega-entrepreneur.

In fact, he really changed the way strength training
was perceived and in many respects - changed the
industry as a whole.

Whether you agree with what he had to say (and these
days most don't) or not - he had a huge impact on
the industry.

So back to Jim. He is doing a product that targets
the Baby Boomers who were part of the 'Nautilus
Generation' and wanted to ask me a couple of
questions.

I must admit, I was fascinated by how passionate
he was about what he was saying and how much
he felt like the message needed to be heard.

But I guess that is why Nautilus grew like it did.

Arthur Jones was passionate about his beliefs.

He instilled that passion in his team.

It ignited a revolution in the fitness industry.

We're in a different era now and many of the
beliefs Arthur Jones had are dated, but the
concept that passion is the driving force behind
anything big still is as true as ever.

If you want to build your own empire - it
starts with passion.

Find what you're passionate about and build
your business around it...you may just be able
to create your own fitness revolution.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

Sell Them What They Want

Sell them what they want...

...then give them what they need.

On the cover of the latest issue of Shape
Magazine were the following headlines:

Weight Loss Made Easy

Get Firm & Sexy in 28 Days

"How I Lost 42 Pounds"

Sleek Thighs In 3 Moves

Do you know why those headlines are on
the cover?

Because they sell magazines.

That's what people want.

So are you trying to sell people what they need?

Or are you selling them what they want?

Trust me...you need to get this right because
people will always buy what they want regardless
of what they need.

My buddy Todd Scott figured this out in a big
way with his product How To Get Six-Pack A.b.s.

Ask people what they want.

A.b.s.

A flat stom.ach.

A six-pack.

So Todd designed a Sixteen Week System to give them
what they want.

Pretty smart.

If you want a dummy proof, plug and play system that
you can offer this January - Todd has created it.

Exactly what people want.

In fact, I think it's such a good - and simple - system,
That if you get it while he's offering his $4.95 trial
today I'll give you your choice of any one of the
following as a bonus:

:: Fitness Riches
:: Mega-Marketing For Fitness
:: PT Business Action Plan

All you have to do is send me your receipt for Todd's
system and which of the manuals you want and I'll
take care of you.

Order here:

http://tinyurl.com/toddscott

Then you'll have everything you need...

A system for what people want and the business
tools to support it.

So sell them what they want and give them what
they need.

Dedicated to growing your business,

Pat

P.S. - Even though Todd is making this $4.95 offer
for the next 3 days - my offer of the bonus of one
of my products is for today only. No exceptions.

I personally will be responding to your e-mails, so
I can't let this spill over into the rest of the week.

Get Todd's How To Get Six-Pack A.b.s. System here:

http://tinyurl.com/toddscott

Then e-mail me your receipt and indicate which of
the 3 products you want (each costs $47, so this is a
helluva deal). That's it.

If You Could…

If you could only do one thing to generate
revenue immediately, what would it be?

Think about that for a second.

Just one thing.

What would you do?

Would you upsell a current client?

Would you get on the phone and call a
prospect?

Would you send out a mass e-mail to your
list?

Would you go to local businesses and offer
your services?

Would you contact all of your clients and ask
for referrals?

Would you send a card to all of your prospects
with a special offer?

What would you do?

Give that some thought...

Make your choice.

Then do it.

That's the key...actually doing it.

Once you've acted on your first choice, move
to your second...then your third.

If you want to grow your business - do something.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you want to learn what hundreds of
successful fitness pros are doing to grow their
businesses - so you can apply the same strategies
to your own business - come on over to PTU:

Inch By Inch

Have you ever heard Al Pachino's 'Inch
By Inch' speech in the movie Any Given
Sunday?

Honestly, most speeches made in sports moves
are awful.

Not this one.

Here are a few lines:

"...We are in he!! right now, gentlemen...
...believe me, and we can stay here and get the
sh&t kicked out of us or we can fight our way
back into the light.

We can climb out of he!!.

One inch, at a time..."

"...You find out that life is just a game of inches.

So is football.

Because in either the game life or football the margin for
error is so small.

I mean one half step too late or to early - you don't quite
make it.

One half second too slow or too fast and you don't quite
catch it.

The inches we need are everywhere around us.

They are in ever break of the game - every minute, every
second.

On this team, we fight for that inch

On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.

We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.

'Cause we know when we add up all those inches,
that's going to make the difference between WINNING
and LOSING..."

********************************************

As far as movie speeches go, that one of my all time favorites.

Because the difference between winning and losing...

...between success and failure...

...is just a matter of inches.

It's the willingness to do just a little more.

Work a little harder or smarter.

All the little things we recommend the members of PTU
or our coaching groups do...they all add up.

Inch by inch.

Because really there are no 'little things'...

Only steps that get you closer to success.

You either take them or you don't.

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - I really hope you've already registered to attend
the IYCA International Summit. As far as steps toward
success go - I can't imagine too many bigger than
attending this.

Networking.

Becoming a better coach.

Becoming a better marketer.

Becoming a better business person.

Learning two ready to use systems GUARANTEED
to add thousands to your monthly income.

All in a weekend.

That's a Big Step.

What’s the real secret?

What's the real secret between success and
failure?

Between winners and losers?

Between ordinary and extraordinary?

One word:

Action!

While lots of people say they have a great idea
for a product...Holly is downstairs filming her
DVD of the month while I type this.

While lots of people say they'd like to get paid
to travel and do workshops...Dave Whitley is
picking up the phone and scheduling them.

While a lot of people say 'I'd like to work with
businesses and do corporate fitness'...Greg Justice
is busting his a<$ setting up locations in Miami
and New York - in spite of the fact that he lives
in Kansas City.

While tons of trainers were sitting around talking
about how they'd like to get more clients...Donovan
Owens sought out the 5 most influential women in
his community and offered to train them for f.r.e.e.
for the networking and publicity.

And he's already been featured in the paper because
of it.

Heck, Tuesday we told Bootcamp Blueprint members
to hustle and make things happen during a webinar...

...so Michelle Rickets went out and set up 3 kids
camps with 20 participants in each one!

If you want something to happen, you have 3 choices:

1. Sit around and hope it happens.
2. Bitch about why it isn't happening.
3. Go out and make it happen!

If you choose number 3, everything won't always
go perfectly - but I guarantee that each day you'll
get a little closer to making your goals a reality.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you haven't taken action and signed up for

Do You Have One Of These?

Do you have what Dan Kennedy would call a
'slack adjustor' - something that provides great
return on your time or gives you a big payday
once in a while?

For Pam MacElree and Jason Brown, it's their
workshops.

For Zach Even-Esh, it's his certification.

For Greg Justice, it's his corporate programs.

For Holly or Craig Ballayntyne, it's a 3 day promo.

These profit centers or promotions are something
most businesses miss out on - but they are almost
always a part of really successful businesses.

Heck, my former player Ted Tom - who is now
the head coach at the University I coached at - even
figured out how to do it in fundraising for his
baseball program.

He developed a big raffle where tickets were $100
apiece. They netted a quick 10K for the program.

So, do you have one?

If not, here are a few ideas...

:: Bring in niche experts for workshops and split the
revenue.

:: Launch a niched, exclusive bootcamp program. Moms,
kids, women, etc. 3-6 hours per week for an extra
2-5 K per month.

:: Start a corporate fitness program using your clients
to open some doors for you.

:: If you train athletes, do one day clinics. Not only
are they great paydays, but they're also great lead
generators for your long term programs.

Hopefully one or two of those got your wheels
turning and set you on the path to launching your
own 'slack adjustor.'

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you want me to give you two ready to use
Slack Adjustors, make sure that you sign up for the
IYCA International Summit before the end of the

Done For You, aff

That's the buzz in the marketing world.

Done For You.

People don't want to go through the process
of sifting through things and trying to interpret
how they should apply them.

Nope. They want done for you.

Do you blame them?

People don't want to be experts in everything.

People don't have tons of time.

They want the easiest solution to their problem.

You need to embrace this as a business.

Done for you meal plans.

Done for you supplement schedules.

Done for you programs for the days your
clients aren't with you.

The easier you make your clients' life, the
happier they'll be.

FYI - we're embracing this same thing with the
upcoming IYCA International Summit.

For fitness pros that enroll early, we're doing a
special half-day workshop on 'Running Profitable
Speed Clinics and Camps' where we're providing
you with everything you need to run successful
clinics and camps in a Done For You format:

Press releases
Marketing tools
Clinic and camp templates
Necessary forms
Marketing, sales and upsell systems

So, while you're creating done for you offerings for
your clients, you can also be implementing the
done for you clinic and camp system we're providing
you.

Sounds like a win / win to me!

Are You Recession Resistant?

What's the most recession resistant segment of
the fitness industry?

Youth Fitness - hands down.

Parents will keep spending on their kids no
matter what.

Did you go shopping over the weekend?

If so, then you know what I'm talking about.

Parents spend bil.lions on toys & games, sports
equipment, scholarship services and almost anything
else you can imagine.

Are they spending any of it with you?

I'm not saying that you need to build your entire
business around the youth market, but you need
to have a component of your business that
serves kids 6-18.

Otherwise you're missing out on the biggest
opportunity currently available to you.

Today we're opening enrollment for the IYCA
International Summit and I'll be doing a session
specifically about adding a youth fitness profit
center to your adult based business.

In fact, I'm going to give you a complete blueprint
that will allow you to add a simple $2500 (or more)
per month Youth Fitness profit center to your business.

Every detail will be covered.

Could you use an extra 30K per year?

If you attend the IYCA International Summit, I'm
going to give you everything you need to get it.

Green Friday

They call it Black Friday, but it should be called
Green Friday because there are a lot of people
spending a lot of muney today.

Are you getting any of it?

I know a few creative fitness pros that are
either running online promos or doing something
offline and piggybacking this pseudo holiday.

They're running one day sales, creating special
holiday bundles of products or services, sending
press releases, doing promos at malls and any
number of other things that will drive them business.

It's all about taking action.

You should always be looking for opportunities
to make something happen, and the Holiday
season offers quite a few.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, New Years...

...you're doing something (or have done something)
with all of those, right?

But here are three more:

:: Hi Neighbor Month

:: Stress Free Family Holiday Month

:: Coats For Kids Days

You could do press releases on all of them.

You could hold a Bring a Neighbor week.

You could do a charity drive for coats.

You could do a workshop on 'Stress Fr.ee Holidays.'

There are probably three dozen other things you
could do...

...just do something!

Make that 'just do several somethings!'

December can be a great business month if you
are willing to make it one.

Have a great weekend!

What’s Going On With You?

Right now we're in the middle of about 20
(probably more like 36) different projects including:

:: Holly's www.fityummymummy.com 1 Yr.
Anniversary.

:: The launch of an e-book every adult on the
planet needs to read: www.theyouthobesitysolution.com.

:: Opening enrollment to the IYCA's first ever
International Summit next week.

:: Working tirelessly on our youth fitness franchise
that will launch in 2009.

There are literally more than 2 dozen others - and
I'm thankful to have this many great opportunities.

But, as with the nature of any newsletter - you hear
all about what's going on with me and sometimes
what's going on with a few of our coaching clients
or Mastermind Group members.

So, what's going on with you?

What projects are you working on?

What opportunities are you excited about?

If you don't mind - take a minute and shoot
me a quick e-mail and let me know what
big things you're up to.

I'll look forward to your e-mail...

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you're in the U.S. - have a Happy
Thanksgiving!

If not, have a Happy Thursday ;)

Is It Just A Band Aid

I'm going to start by saying that this might offend
you.

That's not my goal, but the price of clarity is the
risk of ruffling some feathers.

OK - my buddy Dax Moy has been blogging about
what he believes lately and I think a lot of fitness
professionals have started to explore their own
personal beliefs as a result of this.

Well, I believe that the fitness industry is about as
efficient at providing lasting solutions for fat loss
as the government is at providing solutions for a
sagging economy.

They want to just provide Band Aids.

Pouring bil.lions into broken companies doesn't
un-break them.

Joining a gym and attending 2 hours a week doesn't
cure the 166 hours of gluttony each week.

In fact, changing 35 years of bad habits in 12 sessions
is about as likely as getting the winning lottery ticket.

To make a difference, it starts with the foundation.

Broken companies need to look at what they're
fundamentally doing wrong instead of taking their
bailout muney and using it to keep doing stupid
sh&t.

Gyms need to help people embrace new lifestyle
habits instead of selling them access to equipment
that has them sitting on their a<$ and pushing or
pulling something for a few minutes.

Trainers need to focus more on helping clients
think differently about food and exercise.

Workouts are short term.

Programs are better, but still temporary.

Changing lifestyles is the goal.

That's a big reason why I got involved in the IYCA.

It's a heck of a lot easier to educate and empower
someone from the start instead of getting them to
unlearn what they currently know and believe.

In fact, we just created a resource for parents to
help them raise happy, healthy and active kids.

Well, I say it's for parents - but really, I've never
met an adult that shouldn't read it.

You can see what I'm talking about here:

http://www.theyouthobesitysolution.com

That project helped remind me, it all starts with
a solid foundation.

If you have that, you don't have to continually
try to cover up problems with Band Aids.

Apply that mindset to your business and to your
clients. That alone will set you and them up for
long term success.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Why should every adult read The Youth Obesity
Solution. Three reasons:

1. You'll think differently about kids that struggle with
their weight. Doesn't matter whether you have kids
or not - you don't live in a vacuum.

2. Like it or not, if we really do want to cure the
Obesity Epidemic, it hinges on re-infusing physical
culture back into the lives of children.

3. 95% of the book's message is applicable to adults
and will help you help them.

Don’t Be Late To The Party

"Good things come to those that wait, but only
those things that we're left behind."

- Abraham Lincoln

You don't have to be first to eventually be
the dominant business or person in a market.

But, boy does it help.

And when I say first, I don't mean being the
first trainer in your area.

I mean first to attack a new niche.

First to run bootcamps.

First to adopt a new marketing strategy.

Rest assured, other people will try to imitate you,
but you will be the standard bearer.

You'll always be one step ahead.

Fast food restaurants follow McDonalds.

Coffee shops follow Starbucks.

Online retailers follow Amazon.

Are you doing anything where your competitors
are following you?

If you're not - you should be.

Get ready for a great week!

Pat

P.S. - Market Annihilator closes tonight at
midnight. If you want to dominate local online
marketing, you really need to be in this program.

http://www.marketannihilator.com

If you aren't, you'd better hope your competitors
aren't either. Otherwise you'll always be following
them...

What Are You Doing This Weekend?

Me, I'm taking Tyler to basketball tryouts and
then watching the OSU / Michigan game.

Then, Sunday I'm going to dedicate about 3
hours to working on our businesses.

I try to carve out at least a couple hours each
weekend to work on our businesses.

No phones ringing, no scheduled calls or
meetings...

...I get some of my best work done during these
times.

Have you blocked out 2-4 hours a week to
work on your business?

Are you making headway on your big projects?

We're almost to December. Have you gotten
most of the things done you set out to do back
in January?

Do yourself a favor and schedule a few hours
of 'work on your business' time each week.

No excuses...just do it.

I'm confident you'll find those few hours
to be some of your favorites each week.

Have a great weekend!

on the time you spend marketing while
generating more prospects - the Market
Annihilator program will teach you how to
do that so you'll have more of those 'work
on your business' hours I'm talking about.

So You Want To Be Famous

My buddy Nate Green's new book, Built For
Show, was released today.

You can grab it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Built-Show-Body-Changing-Workouts-andLooking/dp/1583333193/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226762633&sr=8-1

Nate has written for magazines, masterminded
with the best minds in the industry, opened his
own studio and is a contributing editor for
T-Nation.

And he's 17 years old.

Just kidding.

He's really 23. But still - that's a lot for a
23 year old.

So, from an observational standpoint - here's how
Nate has gotten so much done at such a young age.

1. He's persistently sought out the top people in
the industry and approached them for advice.

2. He's applied what they've told him.

3. He's followed up, said thank you every time
someone has helped him and continued to cultivate
the relationship.

4. He's put in the sweat equity working ON his
business. While he was running his training
business he was still writing articles, attending
conferences and seminars, networking and working
on his book.

That's it. While there are plenty of details I'm
skipping, the basis of Nate's success (in my
opinion) is that he does the stuff other people say
they're going to do - but don't.

Garb his book and use it as motivation to propel
you to new heights.

In fact, if you do - e-mail Nate and he'll give you
his blueprint for climbing the ladder. He provides
everything from tips to how to get in the magazines
to exact scripts he used to get published.

Probably worth 10X the price of the book.

His e-mail is nate(at)thenategreenexperience.com.

OK - time to grab a flight back home.

Who loves ya, (been spending the last 4 days
with Labadie)

Pat

in your area, Chris McCombs will teach you

A Tip From Tampa

One of our Elite Mastermind members, Greg Justice,
has probably done as good a job of creating Raving
Fans and maximizing their lifetime value to his
business as anyone in the personal training industry.

Greg has 19 different clients that have been with
him for 20 years.

You know anyone else that can say that?

But another key way that Greg has maximized his
relationships with these clients is through his
corporate fitness business.

See, Greg is probably as big an expert in corporate
fitness and any trainer in the industry - and he's
built an incredible business around that expertise.

So what has Greg done?

He's leveraged his relationships with the Raving
Fans and gotten contracts to provide corporate
fitness programs for their businesses.

And it's added hundreds of thousands of dol.lars
to his bottom line.

Do you have some clients that could open those
types of doors for you?

Do you have any clients that can get you in to do
any speaking engagements?

Have you looked for doors your clients might be
able to open for you?

If you haven't, you're leaving muney on the table.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Chris' Market Annihilator program is filling
up fast. In fact, we just enrolled all of our
Mastermind Members, so if you haven't enrolled yet,

Do You Have a Secret Weapon?

Most every successful business or individual has
what I call a 'Secret Weapon.'

This is your trump card that gives you an edge
over your competition. It's your unique 'it' factor
that makes people choose you or your unique skill
that others can't match.

Wal-Mart has lower prices than their competitors.

Starbucks has positioned itself as people's '3rd place.'

But what about us 'small guys?'

When I coached, I felt like we had 2 'secret weapons.'

We had a unique and very successful offense that
our competitors couldn't match and I was a better
recruiter than my competitors.

For Holly, she has a unique niche...moms. Moms can
choose to invest in some product that was developed
for everybody...or Holly's program that was developed
specifically or them.

Zach Even-Esh's 'Secret Weapon' is his Underground
training style. It's unique, effective and has developed
a cult-like following.

Your 'Secret Weapon' can be a niche that you target,
a sales approach that you've implemented or a
marketing system you have.

In fact, you can have several 'Secret Weapons'...the
more the better. You want as many points of
separation between you and the competition as you
can create.

In one of the most competitive training markets in the
country, Orange County - Chris McCombs has used
what I consider to be the most effective local internet
marketing system in the industry to produce a multiple
six-figure income from his training business.

That's his 'Secret Weapon.'

As you probably know by now, Chris is going to
share his system in his Market Annihilator coaching
program. The doors open at 10 a.m. EST:

http://www.marketannihilator.com/

Spaces are limited, so don't wait...

...and don't wait on developing your own 'Secret
Weapon.'

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - A unique niche, service, system or style...
make sure you have it. To be better you need to
be a little different.

Off To Tampa

Nick and I are off to Tampa today to meet up
with our Elite Mastermind group tomorrow and
Wednesday.

This isn't just any old group of trainers either.

It's a small collection of 12 people that want to
build 7-8 figure fitness empires.

And they invest 9K per year to be part this
select group of high-achievers.

Why would they invest so much to be part of
a group like this?

Three reasons:

1. Every successful business person is part of some
form of mastermind group.

2. To achieve maximum success you need a coach.

3. It's all about ROI.

Let's break it down:

1. Whether you invest to be part of a group like
this or you set up your own - you need to be part
of a group of similarly motivated people that you
can exchange ideas with and learn from.

2. Be it a coach or a mentor, every successful person
has someone that they've relied on for advice, direction,
and guidance. There is probably nothing you can do
that will accelerate your progress more.

3. Investing 9K may seem like a lot, but there is no
doubt that each of these members will see an increase
in their income of tens - and probably hundreds of
thousands of dol.lars - this year. Name a stock that
will provide that kind of ROI.

Not everyone is in a position to invest 9K in a
Mastermind Group or coaching program...heck, for
a long time I certainly wasn't.

But regardless of what you can invest, you MUST be
part of a Mastermind Group, you need to leverage the
expertise of a coach or a mentor and you have to look
at the ROI educational opportunities can provide.

It's not what they cost...it's what they'll make you.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

5 minutes for more biz...

I was reviewing my buddy Rocco's Ultimate
Consultation System the other day and it
jogged my memory and reminded me of
one of the easiest ways to increase your
clients' lifetime value.

OK...how easy is this:

1. Provide your clients with a Nutrition Journal.
(Rocco had a rebrandable one in his program
and that what reminded me.)

2. Once a month set a time to review the journal.

3. During these review sessions you can make specific
recommendations like:

"Ms. Jones, I see you've been doing ok except for
breakfast. Here's what we're going to do...I'm going
to start you on the meal replacement I recommend -
Prograde Lean - and you're going to drink a shake for
Breakfast. That's easy, fast and will help us get you
those results you're working for."

Or...

"Ms. Jones, I see you've been kind of inconsistent
with your nutrition, so I want you to do my 4 week
nutrition coaching program. This will get you on
track and really jump start your progress. Let's go
ahead and enroll you in that today."

The need for what you're suggesting is right in front
of them in black and white so they're almost
certainly going to comply with what you say.

But what if they have been doing well?

"Ms. Jones, it looks like you've been doing great
with your nutrition! Because we want to keep your
progress coming at such a good rate, I suggest that
you start supplementing your diet with a couple of
products that will help you recover from your training
sessions. The two products that I recommend are..."

Because they've been having success following your
advice they'll be very open to your recommendations.

The best part...this works perfectly for addressing
nutrition in semi-private and bootcamp settings too.

5 minutes a month with each client and you can
potentially add 10-100% to their monthly value
depending on what you're upselling.

How's that for easy?

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - When I was reviewing Rocco's system I
was reminded about how cool a resource it is.

Everyone - including me - loves 'done for you.'

He gives you a done for you nutrition journal,
orientation manual, workout card, meal plan
template and most of the paperwork you need
to run a business.

And that doesn't even count the information in
the product.

Dol.lar for dol.lar one of the most valuable products
out there for trainers. If you don't have it, you should.

How do you get 20 new clients?

There is an old saying in the marketing
world that goes something like this:

'I don't know 1 strategy that will generate
20 new clients, but I know 20 strategies that
will each generate 1 new client.'

So, how many different things are you doing
to generate prospects?

Here's a list of some ideas to get you going:

1. Seminars
2. Press Releases
3. Newspaper ads
4. Direct mail
5. Flyers
6. Radio ads
7. Networking events
8. Joint ventures
9. Print newsletters
10. E-mail newsletters
11. Blogs
12. Podcasts
13. Videos
14. Lead boxes
15. Lunch and learns
16. Websites
17. Articles
18. Referrals
19. Lead boxes
20. Fr.ee Trials

There are plenty of other options, but there
are a few to get you started.

If you're not generating a significant number
of clients online - watch this video.

http://www.marketannihilator.com/video5.html

You need to be doing several things to generate
new business.

If you're doing anything I didn't list or they
didn't cover in the video, let me know.

I've got about 20 other ideas, but would love
to see if I'm missing anything.

Changing With The Times

It wasn't so long ago that everyone said:

'You've got to have a website if you're
going to be successful.'

I remember back in 2004-2005 I wrote about
200 keyword rich articles to get the Fitness
Consulting Group site to rank high on the
search engines.

It worked great as we got on the first page
of google for a variety of keywords and
generated a ton of subscribers and business.

But online things move FAST.

Before long everyone was using a blogger
blog to supplement their website.

That quickly got outdated as people began
making their blogs their 'business hubs' and
started using a bunch of plug ins and other
stuff I barely understand.

But here is what I do understand.

If you run a training business, a blog should
be the focal point of your online presence.

You'll get more traffic. You'll rank higher
in the search engines and ultimately you'll
generate more business if you're online hub
is a blog.

Over the last few days I've directed you to
Chris McCombs for some videos as he's the
best I know at generating local business online.

What I haven't told you is that he's my coach as
we step up our blogging and PPC efforts.

He did a video on what you NEED to know about
blogging and I strongly suggest that you give it
your undivided attention:

http://www.marketannihilator.com/video4.html

He did a post the other day on his blog that got
9000 hits in about 36 hrs.

If you're like me, you wouldn't mind having 9000
more prospects...

or 900...

or even 90.

He'll show you how.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

A Great Tip From The Weekend!

One of my favorite tips from the weekend at
the Info-Summit was when Dan Kennedy said
five percent of your customers can potentially
account for FIFTY percent of your revenue...

...if you let them.

If you let them?

Yep. Most of the time we just don't ever maximize
what are best clients are willing to spend with us.

So how can you apply this?

Let's say that you've had 100 people do business
with you in some fashion.

The best 5 might be the ones who buy everything
you sell...training, nutrition, supplements...you
name it.

But they also would be referring like crazy, lining
you up speaking engagements and maybe even
hooking you up with corporate deals.

So how do you know who those 5 are?

You don't.

So you need to offer upsells to everyone.

You need to ask for referrals from everyone.

You need to build relationships with everyone.

You need to make everyone raving fans.

Because you never know who might ultimately
account for 50% of your inc.ome.

This applies online too.

Chris McCombs and my buddy Bedros Keuilian
have put together a great video on how you can
get more clients and customers...and how you
can maximize what they spend with you.

Here's the link:

http://www.marketannihilator.com/video3.html

One Heck Of A Weekend!

This past weekend I was at the Dan Kennedy
Info-Summit along with Nick, Holly, Brian
Grasso and Sara Nylander.

I'd guess we were the only company with 5
team members there, but 5 minds are better
than one ;)

There were some killer presentations, great
sales pitches, incredible networking - and
overall, a TON of business building info.

I learned a LOT about converting prospects
into clients / customers. And a lot of it was
based on the art of persuasion.

See, a lot of fitness pros don't really think in
terms of persuasion.

They think that people buy because of logic.

If 'those trainers' have the right credentials and
the right knowledge - people will surely want
to work with them.

WRONG!

People buy for a variety of reasons - and logic
is waaaaay down the list.

My buddy Chris McCombs just posted an
incredible video case study with a guy he
coached on persuasion and some other tactics.

The result: 18K additional revenue in 4 mos.

You really need to see this:

http://www.marketannihilator.com/video2.html

I have a few persuasion tips I'll be sharing this
week - but start with this video. I've watched it
twice already and will probably re-watch it again
today.

Get ready to learn some cool stuff!

Pat

P.S. - Are you:

:: Building rapport?

:: Meeting them where they're at?

:: Like them?

:: Getting personal?

:: Taking proof to the next level?

Once you integrate these concepts and a
few more you'll learn - your sales will go
through the roof!

Beverage Sales Newsletter: Are Energy Drinks Dead?

Dear adsdsf,

Are Energy Drinks at the front of the New Age Beverage Business? Or are they dead?

Energy Drinks are still growing and double figure digits. The problem is when you look close the only companies actually growing are Monster Energy Drink, Rockstart Energy Drink, Red Bull, Coca Cola products like Tab and Burn or Full Throttle, Pepsi Cola with Sobe and other large companies.

None of the small companies are growing or succeeding. Furthermore, when I speak with distributors, retailers and wholesalers they tell me they get at least one call every single day from someone selling them an energy drink. They tell me they don't what to see an energy drink ever again. So what's going on? Are new energy drinks dead or if there still an opportunity or an opening for new energy drinks to flourish?

Well, in my opinion there is still a large opportunity, but not through traditional channels. You can't get a new energy drink into 7-Eleven, or Circle K, or any of the important retail accounts. Well, you actually, can, if you can pay $100 per store times 4,000 stores for slotting, but that's $400,000 just to get into the store and in many cases that is not even enough anymore. How will you sell the product, advertise, etc. No, that's not the answer.

The answer is alternative channels. Many beverage companies don't realize that consumer goods can be sold in many different places, not just supermarkets and convenience stores. Energy Drinks as well as other type of beverages can be sold in office buildings, in hardware stores, doctor's clinics, and the list goes on and on. For example, the largest growing energy drink sales are using MLM - Multi Level Marketing and are being sold from home.

Using direct marketing, untraditional methods of distribution and clever sales strategies you can still sell your energy drink or other beverages and capture a niche and your share of the market.

So are Energy Drinks Dead? No, they are not, but the traditional way of launching an energy drink is saturated. So don't waste your time (and money) trying to prove me wrong. I have spoken with 3 companies just last month that when through up to $6 million dollars and could not compete in the space.

Think out of the box, think alternative, think direct sales.

Thanks,

Jorge Olson

Learn By Coaching

Wednesday night Holly was preparing for
a coaching call with her FYM Fit Club
coaching group and asking me a few questions
about some of the material she wanted to cover.

I shared with her some of the lessons I learned
as a baseball coach and as a competitive athlete
that I felt would be of value to her group.

But the more I thought about it, I felt like
Maybe I needed to share that same information
with you.

See, when I was coaching I truly believed that
being college athlete was the best way that someone
could spend their college years in preparation for
future success.

Think about it:

:: You are forced to deal with adversity in sports.
The people that manage adversity the best are usually
the ones who excel.

:: You have to be goal oriented. How else can you
train all year for a goal that only is potentially achieved
at the end of the season?

:: You have to be able to prioritize things and manage
your time.

:: You have to be willing to work within the framework
of a team.

So here are a couple of keys to athletic success that
I shared with her and I want to share with you:

1. Train to get better, not to get done. Same thing
applies to business. Are you training each session
as if the quality of the service you deliver will dictate
your success? Are you treating each marketing activity
with that same respect as well?

2. Be a Champion. Championships aren't won
Overnight. They take months of practice, a willingness
to work and a genuine passion for what you're doing.

3. Have small victories. Winning one game doesn't
mean you win a championship - but it's a way to
measure your progress and validate your efforts. Have
short term ways to measure your efforts.

4. Compete. I think this is a biggie. No competition
leads to going through the motions. Athletes train.
Everyone else works out. The difference...competition.
Are you going through the motions in your business?

5. Handle adversity. In baseball, hitters that didn't let
one bad at bat turn into a bad game were the most
successful. In business it's the same. A missed sale
doesn't mean you can't sell. A bad marketing campaign
doesn't mean you're destined for failure. Learn from
it and move on.

Honestly, I could go on for days about this stuff.

Very few of my beliefs about success didn't stem
from coaching. If you think about the coaching you
do with your clients, you'll probably find a lot of
concepts that you can transfer to the business side
of things to improve your success.

In other words - You'll learn by coaching.

Have a great weekend!

Different Perspectives For Success

Some trainers target only the affluent.

We've generated most of our clients from the
'middle class.'

Holly targets moms.

The IYCA is all about kids.

I know dozens of trainers who still love 1 on 1
training.

But bootcamps are all the rage.

We're off to the Dan Kennedy Info-Summit today
and we're taking 5 members of our team.

And that's exactly why.

We may all see things a bit differently.

We may all uncover different opportunities.

Each of us have a different perspective.

Are you in a mastermind group?

That's one of my favorite benefit from being
in the groups we're in.

Everyone has a different perspective.

If you can learn from 5 or 10 different people's
experiences instead of learning from just your
own success will come a lot faster.

That's one of the reasons for PTU's success.

Everyone now can benefit from a variety of
perspectives.

That's also what our Strategic Fitness Profits
Newsletter is all about.

We share our own perspectives, but also pass
along the best practices of the thousands of
fitness pros we interact with.

Could you use that sort of knowledge?

If you're like me, the answer is yes.

That's why I'm off to St. Louis.

And that's why you need to subscribe to
Strategic Fitness Profits today:

The door closes to subscribe tonight.

Don't miss out.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - I'll keep you posted on all the cool
stuff I learn at the Info-Summit.

3 Letters For More Clients (It’s not what you think)

C. F. S.

What's it mean?

Consistently Follow the System.

At our health club we have a sales manager, Lisa.

Last month she closed 5 X more deals than the
closest similar club - amid all the talk of an
economic downturn.

How'd she do it?

Is she a fitness sales guru?

Nope. She was our receptionist until just a couple
months ago and prior to that had never worked in
fitness or been a salesperson.

Was it great marketing?

Nah. We spent about $50 on marketing last
month.

Great sales copy or a special offer?

Nothing of the sort. We didn't do anything new
and didn't make any incredible offer.

The secret to Lisa's success is that she is
as consistent at following and executing a
system as any person I've ever met.

If there is a script to follow, she follows it
100% of the time.

If she's supposed to ask for a referral, she
does - 100% of the time.

If she's supposed to make follow up calls,
she makes them.

If she's supposed to present prices a certain way,
she does.

In fact, she's even added some marketing systems
I hadn't even thought of...and I'm pretty good
at that stuff.

In fact, she has a goal of 4 sales appointments per
day and executes her system until she gets them -
and often gets more than that.

If you're not generating enough business, I've
got 2 questions for you:

1. Do you have several lead generation systems?
2. Do you consistently execute them - day after day?

If you can't honestly say yes to both, then don't spend
any more on marketing until you fix that.

It will probably cure your problems generating leads.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you want to learn about marketing, sales
and business systems - we'll be covering them all
in our Strategic Fitness Profits Newsletter.
