It's Coming

2010 is right around the corner.
We're just a couple of days away.
What does the New Year hold for you?

For Nick, me and our other business partners it
holds a variety of things:

:: Dozens of new Athletic Revolution locations
:: More solutions to help trainers and coaches reach their
professional goals
:: Several live events

We're going to help hundreds... more like thousands of
fitness professionals grow their businesses, help more people
and move closer to achieving their dreams.

I put all this out there to you because I want you to do the
same to me.

Reply and tell me what you're going to make happen in 2010.

Accountability is a key to success - and I'll hold you accountable
if you let me.

Take a few minutes and send me an email to share what you
have in store for the new year.

I'll read it once I get home from Disney, keep it on file and keep
my eyes open for ways to help you reach your goals faster - if
you drop me that email.

I'll be on the lookout for your message  ;)

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - You'll get a vacation reply when you send it over since
I'm away from the office.  But I'll get to reading all the responses
I receive on Thursday after we return.

Quick Tip

The UPS guy just showed up with my weekly supply of

new book. You can grab it here:

I also did a quick tip on relationship marketing over

It's a strategy that helps me and I think it will

Time to dig into my new books!

Dying a slow death

Over the weekend Tyler, Holly and I went to my
hometown of Portsmouth, Ohio.

Portsmouth is an interesting place. Back in the
1920's and 30's it was a thriving industrial town.

There was even an NFL team that eventually
moved to Detroit and became the Lions.

At one point Portsmouth had about 70,000 people.

Today there are 20,000.

Just as in everything, things changed.

The industries that fueled the town's growth
started to die off.

Many of the good jobs were no longer available.

And the city didn't adapt.

See, a few people in the town had generated
significant wealth and stonewalled any new business
from coming into Portsmouth.

They were rich and had no interest in new competition.

While that might have worked out ok for the successful
few – a city is dying a slow death because of it.

So many businesses succumb to that same fate.

They get married to one way of doing things and when
that way stops working as well as it once did – they
aren't willing to adapt.

And everyone else passes them by.

Things change and you're either growing or dying.

Which do you choose?

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

P.S. – There are 2 great resources that I recently picked
up and I suggest that you do to in order to help you
make the most of the January rush:

Coach Dos' new book – great stuff to improve your
group training:

http://tinyurl.com/ychu4td

And Assess & Correct by Bill Hartman, Mike Robertson
and Eric Cressey:

http://www.assessandcorrect.com/

I actually have that in my DVD player right now and it's
a must have to maximize your clients' results.

No affiliate links or anything – just two items that I
*know* will make your business better.

Do you believe?

With Christmas right around the corner, all
of us with young children around the house
get to enjoy the magic of belief that kids have.

Kids believe until you convince them otherwise.

I think they're smarter than most of us.

Over the past week I've had a Mastermind group
and a group of Bootcamp Blueprint members in
town.

If I were to identify the 2 things that separate the
most successful from the least (and most of the
guests are among the most successful in the
industry), it's action – which I talk about all the time,
and belief.

The successful people spend their time figuring
out why and how things *will* work while the
others complain why they won't.

Which group do you fall into?

One attendee came all the way from the UK and
he did a couple of things that most people would
never think of doing – or at least never have the
guts to actually go through with:

- He got a few of his clients to pre-pay for
two years' worth of training to fund the
start up of his new facility.

No partners, no bank loans, no investors
to pay back.

- He basically raffled off a year of training to
his clients. They each bought a chance to
win one 'fr.ee' year of training. He made
about 2x as much (pre-paid) for the year
of training than if he'd have just sold a
year package.

Sure – he's an ultra bright guy to think these up, but
more importantly – he didn't waste any time coming
up with reasons not to try these ideas out.

I know there are a few things that you've thought
about trying.

Just do it.

Believe in yourself and make things happen.

You'll be glad you did.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

P.S. – We're going to accept 5 more people into
Bootcamp Blueprint leading up to 2010. If you want
to be considered, reply to this email…but act fast.

These 5 spots won't last.

Something New

I had a great live coaching session with some BCBP
members yesterday and will share some cool takeaways
with you...tomorrow.

Today I want to suggest you spend a few minutes
checking out my good friend Curtis Mock's new TV
show:

http://fitbiz.tv/

It's focused at club owners and studio owners mainly,
but I think anyone in the industry needs to check
it out.

So watch Curtis today and I'll be back with some
great stuff of my own for you tomorrow.

A Lesson From Disney

Holly, Tyler and I are heading off to Disney World
the day after Christmas for a brief vacation to cap
off a wonderful 2009 and 'relax' a bit before 2010.

Well imagine my surprise when I received an email
from Disney today saying that our resort accommodations
had been upgraded at no charge.

I called to follow up. It was true. We'd been upgraded at
no additional cost.

I decided to see what the difference was between the
vacation package we'd booked and the one we'd been
upgraded to – I checked on their website…

…about $1800.

I already felt pretty strongly about Disney. I've read
about 10 books on their business practices and on
Walt Disney.

As you can imagine, I feel even more strongly now;)

So how can you apply this type of thing to your business?

I'd say that you should simply give a little extra whenever
you can.

I'm sure it doesn't cost Disney $1800 to upgrade us, but
the goodwill it generated will easily payoff with us
continuing to vacation there over all the other options.

So think of ways to can overdeliver.

Give whenever you can.

It certainly has worked out ok for Disney.

Pat

P.S. - Are you coming? I hope so…

Do you have them?

At the close of our Mastermind Meeting on Friday
each member identified some goals they are going
to achieve – not hope to achieve – before our next
meeting.

Do you set specific, measurable goals that *must*
be achieved by a defined date?

You should.

One of the goals they all set was to each have 100
new leads for their businesses in January.

I'll keep you posted on how they do, but I can already
tell you now – they'll get there.

100 new leads…what's that worth to a business?

25, 50, 100 grand?

Maybe more.

I strongly suggest you follow their lead and set some
specific goals – and a deadline for achieving them.

There's no better way to achieve success.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

What will you do?

First off – BJ Gaddour just made a great post over
at the blog on what to get your clients for the holidays.

Check it out:

http://patnickandjim.com

Back when I coached at a state university, it was
pretty standard for employees to get a 3% pay
increase yearly.

Keep your job for another year, get a small raise.

While I know some universities have put a freeze
on this yearly standard pay increase lately as their
budgets have been cut – honestly, I always thought
it was kinda dumb.

I guess that's why I was cut out to be an entrepreneur.

Simply doing enough not to get fired merits a raise?

Really?

No wonder so many state and university budgets are
in the red.

If you want a raise – a lot more than 3% - you need to
do some planning and some work, but the sky is the limit.

I expect our businesses to double their revenues in 2010.

That's not a dream – we doubled revenues in 2009.

And 2008.

But it's come with specific goals, specific plans and
the work and education necessary to achieve them.

We couldn't simply show up for another year.

And neither can you.

If you want 2010 to be the year you grow your business
by 25%, 50%, 100% or even 200% - it's completely possible
if you're willing to make it happen.

That may mean stepping out of your comfort zone, investing
more in your education, working on your business more and
doing things differently than you've ever done before…

…but it beats the heck out of settling for 3%.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

Know this for success in 2010

Are you like Jarrod?

Last Friday one of Nick and my former employees
came by for some sales training.

Jarrod is now one of the top personal training sellers
for a health club chain that has about 40 locations
and sells about 20 mil.lion in training a year.

But he spent his day off investing in sales training.

Basically that was his version of 'working on his
business' so he's better at 'working in his business.'

Are you working on your business?

I know you're working in it.

A few hours working on your business will make you
time working in your business a lot more valuable.

For Jarrod – us working on increasing his closing
percentage a few points or his average deal size
by 10-15% could mean 15-20K per year in additional
income.

Not a bad return for a few hours on a Friday, huh?

Do yourself a favor and spend at least a few hours
a week working on your business so you can reap the
rewards the rest of the time.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

P.S. – I've considered it for a long time, but spending a few
hours doing sales training with Jarrod finally convinced
me to create a sales resource for trainers in 2010.

I'll keep you posted…

A rule to remember

Yesterday I was talking with a member of one
of our coaching programs and shared what I felt
was something you should hear too:

You will always be faced with situations that aren't
exactly what you want.

Doesn't matter if it's a business opportunity, a personal
relationship or something else.

Perfect situations rarely arise.

So you're basically left with 3 options:

1. Move on. Not every opportunity, relationship or
situation is a good fit.

2. Bitch about it. The worst option, but what most
people choose.

3. Find a way to derive what you're looking for
from the situation.

If you choose option 3 – my personal favorite, you
have to be willing to adapt a bit – but the long-term
benefits far outweigh the other options.

But let me toss in a quick disclaimer before I go –
number one isn't a bad option either sometimes.

Life's too short to be in situations that you don't like
for too long, and there are far more opportunities
out there than most realize.

I'm not sure if this helped him any or if it helps you…

…but I know it helps me so I thought I'd share.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

P.S. - Are you a Prograde pro? You should be because
they are making it super easy to help you add an

Are You Getting Enough?

Are you getting enough leads to build the business
you want?

If you want to have a multiple 6 figure business, that
means plenty of clients.

You need 42 bootcampers paying you $199 per month
for 100K per year.

63 for 150K.

84 for 200K.

To get there you have to have a steady flow of leads.

How many leads are you getting each week?

A safe rule of thumb is 4 for every camper or client
you want to have.

If you have 4 leads, conservatively – 2 will show for
a fr.ee trial.

Of those, conservatively, 1 will buy.

You can improve these conversion rates by pre-qualifying,
generating more referrals that are pre-sold and by
becoming a better sales person – but no matter what,
you still need leads to grow your business.

So, in short, if you want more business, you need more
leads. If you're not generating some on almost a daily
basis then you're probably going to fall short of your
business goals.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat

P.S. – If you haven't heard, Prograde has developed a new
IYCA Approved Kids Multi-Vitamin. If you train young
athletes, this is big news.

If you're not already a Prograde Pro (why not?), enroll
now – it's fr.ee – so you can share this great new product
with your athletes. You can enroll here:
