Lessons From Baseball & Business

I spent the weekend in Ohio visiting friends and
family. While I was there I caught parts of a
couple of college baseball games at my old
University.

One of my favorite former players is in his 2nd year
as the head coach there now - and he inherited a
mess from the previous coach.

If it was a business it would have be about as stable
as the US auto industry.

So Ted (the coach) is in the 2nd year of the building
process and after spending a few hours with him
Saturday evening I was reminded of how similar this
is to what we do.

His success essentially boils down to two things:

1. His success at bringing people into the program.
2. Their success once they're in the program.

Sound familiar?

Thought so.

To be successful bringing people into the program he's
got to:

:: Target the right people

:: Give them a reason to choose him over the competition

:: Make the right offer

Once they're in the program, they need to achieve
success through doing well:

:: On the field (comparable to clients doing well during
sessions)

:: Off the field (comparable to your clients eating
supportively)

You're job as a coach or as a business owner is to
ensure that happens.

If all that happens as it should the people brought into
the program should become ambassadors for what you
do and make it easier to attract more of the right people.

These fundamentals work in building a baseball
program and they work in building a business.

All you need to do is apply them consistently and
success will be yours - no matter what your starting
circumstances are.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you're in the Midwest, Carlo Alvarez is
running an awesome Strength & Conditioning
Clinic on May 23rd (my B-Day). Only 75 bucks
and guaranteed to make you a better coach.

I'll be there. Brian Grasso will be there. You
should be there too...
