Is this too gutsy for you?

Yesterday I had a meeting with a gentleman that
owns a direct marketing company - and let me
tell you, it was interesting.

I found him - or actually he found me I guess -
through one of his sales reps that came to my door
trying to sell me a card for discounts on auto care.

I made the rep a deal. I told him if he'd tell me the
details of their business, I'd buy. He clued me in and
I bought.

After this conversation, I had to learn more, so I
connected with the business owner.

Basically, his company becomes a door-to-door
sales force for businesses, with a twist. The come
up with a compelling offer and his company keeps
the proceeds of the sale while the business gets a
new customer that they can sell more of what they
have to offer to.

It's a lot like a fundraising promo I created a while
back and recently shared with Bootcamp Blueprint
members...but with a couple of differences.

Both rely on face to face selling, but with the fundraiser
model the people are selling to friends, family members
and others that they know - while this direct sales
approach is basically knocking on doors of strangers.

Not interested yet? Well, this guy's salespeople close
1 out of 10 people, so if they contact 70 people per
day, they get 7 sales.

Could you use 7 more people in your camp or gym that
you could turn into a long term client each day?

How about each week?

Thought so.

So I'm not saying you need to start going door to door
tomorrow to sell your services - but what I am saying
is that face to face selling works. So stop hiding behind
the computer and either get out there and sell or hire
someone to sell for you.

Public speaking and my fundraiser promo are great for
this - but you could also easily hire someone off of
Craigslist and pay them commission to get out there
and sell for you.

So go sell something;)

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - We have 1 opening for a 1 day private coaching
group here in Louisville on July 7th. If you would like

The Most Important Thing In The Fitness Industry

Every time I see something like that in a headline
I get a little leery.

Some people will have you believe that whatever
they have to offer today is the most important
thing that's ever happened to the industry.

Bul^@#it.

Let me tell you the most important thing that's ever
happened to the fitness industry.

It's YOU.

The best marketing system doesn't work unless
you're implementing it.

Bootcamps don't run without coaches.

You are the most important thing that's happened
to the industry - and don't forget it.

Please understand that this isn't designed to
suggest that the tools and resources offered to
help you aren't valuable.

Often they are.

But you have to remember that you're the key
piece to the puzzle.

People could assemble at the part and run their
own camps - but they don't.

People could buy books and execute the programs
presented in them - but most of the time they need
you to motivate them and hold them accountable.

So if you want to have a great business - start by
making yourself a great trainer or coach. Then follow
that up by educating yourself on business and
self-improvement.

Just remember that no great sales copy, magic
craigslist ad or cool blog post can be a substitute
for you being great at what you do.

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - If you think this is odd coming from someone
who offers coaching programs, licensed business
models and even a franchise - you shouldn't.

During our Athletic Revolution franchise training
this week we saw a perfect illustration of this. Great,
passionate people that will use a system to achieve
incredible success. Not a system that promises to
serve as a replacement for passionate, motivated
people. That doesn't exist.

Good Stuff…

We've heard all about the 'bad economy.'

We see stuff about climbing obesity rates all
over the media.

Really, we're always bombarded with the
negative - but what about all the good stuff that
is going on in the world of fitness?

Yesterday I got to watch Pamela MacElree deliver
a great Kettlebell Athletics certification to some
motivated fitness pros that wanted to get better at
their craft.

I spent some time with Carlo Alvarez and got to hear
about not only the variety of opportunities being
thrown his way - but how at the school where he's
the Strength Coach they've implemented a wellness
program that has literally changed the culture of the
school.

I also talked to Ryan Ketchum about how they're
helping so many people in Bloomington, IN (not
exactly a metropolis) that they're going to have
to add 2000 more sq. ft. to their facility to
accommodate all the new people coming in.

And today I'm on my way over to the offices to
deliver the first Athletic Revolution franchise
training so our new franchisees can go start
making big impacts in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts
and Texas while having the careers they've
wanted from the minutes they stepped foot in
the industry.

There is a lot that is right going on in our
industry. In fact, Jim has a brief video over at
the blog asking you to share what you think that
is right in the personal training industry.

Check it out here:

http://patnickandjim.com/what-is-right-with-the-fitness-industry/

Be sure to leave a comment - we want to hear from you!

Who Are You Working For?

I wasn't sure what I wanted to write about today
so I asked Pamela McElree what she suggested.

Pamela is staying with us for a few days while she's
here holding a Kettlebell Athletics certification, filming
a couple of DVD's with Holly and being part of the
first ever Athletic Revolution franchisee training later
this week.

Since she's staying at our house, she gets to see firsthand
how I spend my day and suggested that I write about
how I balance work with family time.

I guess that I occasionally take some of this for granted
since I spend a great deal of time working from home.

But somehow today in the middle of 6 conference calls
I was able to play checkers, pass baseball and go catch
a movie with Tyler. Not to mention getting to wrap up
some material for Athletic Revolution, some content for
the APPT and worked on 3 other big projects.

What's the secret to finding time for all of this?
No secret really. It just boils down to what's important
to me. Getting our big projects done is important, so
when I work on them they get my undivided attention.

Hanging out with Tyler (and Holly, but she was busy all
day filming) is important - so I make time for that too.

It all boils down to getting things done. No magic there,
but most people miss this. They spend more time thinking
about getting things done that they spend actually doing
them.

Set a timer if you need to and give projects that are
important your undivided attention for a block of time
each day.

Set appointments to spend time with your family.

Make sure you're giving each facet of your life the
quality time and attention it deserves. Weed out the
'time vampires' and don't let things pull you away
from what's important.

You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - If you attended Fast Track and have
Implemented any of the great information that
you learned - hit reply and let me know what
you've done. I can't wait to hear about it!

Selling Made Easy

Today Holly is going to film DVD for her
Fit Yummy Mummy market about kettlebell
training. She's working with Pam MacElree,
the top women's kettlebell expert in the
industry - and I'm sure the product will be
a hit.

Really, the main reason I know the product
will be a resounding success is that her crowd
already knows, likes and trusts her, so when
she sells something - they're already pre-sold.

She used her main product, her e-book Fit Yummy
Mummy - to build that relationship and credibility,
then she followed up with other complimentary
offerings that her audience wanted.

Talk about making selling easy.

She's got a successful membership site that grows
every day. She's one of Prograde's top sellers. She
has a successful DVD of the month program and has
just launched a done for you meal plans product.
But after that initial sale - selling is easy. She
overdelivered on the front and now just fills
the needs that her customers have with new
products and programs.

And she never has to hard sell anything.

You already have a group of people that know,
like and trust you. Find things that they are good
prospects to buy and offer those programs or
products.

It will be the easiest selling you ever do.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

your business, we have a great post over at the blog

Who’s Got Your M.o.n.e.y?

Almost without fail, the first business question
fitness pros ask me is...

"How do I get more clients?"

There's no singular answer to this question.
There are dozens of ways to get more clients.

But here's a simple one that I'll bet you're
overlooking:

Integrating your marketing with someone else's
business.

Someone out there already has your ideal clients as
customers, patients or clients of their own.

What can you do to integrate what you offer into
what they're providing?

The training business that we had that was located in
someone else's health club was a perfect example of
this integration. Our training was the perfect compliment
to a health club membership.

But how else could this work besides in a health
club setting?

Well, I can't give you specifics about a coaching
call we had with one of our Elite Mastermind
members - but I gave him the suggestion of
partnering with a local retail store that targeted
his specific niche and give a one month membership
to his niched camps to their customers that made
a specific type of purchase.

These customers are his ideal client, and this type
of offer could possibly fill up a couple of camps all
by itself.

So look around your community and figure out who
already works with your ideal client. Then create a
win / win / win partnership that will give their clients
or customers greater value, put some extra m.o.n.e.y
in the business owner's pocket and give you a stream
of new prospects.

You've got the weekend coming up - so take 30
minutes to look around. You might just find someone
that has your m.o.n.e.y and is just waiting on you to
come and get it;)

Have a great weekend!

Pat

P.S. - If you have any pressing questions you'd like
to have me write about here or on the blog, leave
me a comment over at http://www.PatNickandJim.com.

I'm always looking for good stuff to write about...

The Perfect Add On?

As far as I'm concerned there are only 2
components for you to consider when you're
designing fat loss programming for your clients...

1. What they're doing when they're with you.

2. What they're doing when they're not.

As fitness pros we get very caught up with number
one, but pay far less attention to number two.

Maybe we have it backwards.

Is it logical to think that what goes on for an hour
or less per day 3, 4 or even 5 days a week will
outweigh what goes on for the other 23 hours.

So, in my opinion, if you want your clients to get
great results you need to address Number 2.

For our training businesses, we offered group Weight
Management programs. Without fail the clients that
were part of that program got better results than
those who weren't.

Oh - and it added about 5K a month to our bottom line.

Seems like a win / win to me.

Over at the blog, nutrition expert Jayson Hunter shares
his insight on weight management programs. You can

The Quickest Way To Make Your Business Viral

Back in the mid 90's, Bill Phillips started using
Transformation Contests to grow his business.

He did EAS Spokesperson Contests that later
evolved into the Body For Life Challenge.

This simple idea of a 12 week challenge made
EAS and Bill hundreds of millions of dollars.

Recently these types of contests have become
popular online with people like Craig Ballantyne
and my wife Holly seeing huge spikes in business
growth because of running Transformation
Contests.

Transformation Contests are finally starting to
catch on with small facility and bootcamp owners -
and there is one man that perfected a formula
for using them to grow training businesses.

Ben Warstler shares how he used Transformation
Contests to grow his bootcamps from 75 to 140
campers (and still climbing) - and how you can too
right here:

Dedicated to your success -

P.S. - I personally think there is NO better way to get
your business to grow virally that these types of
contests - and no better person to teach you about them
than Ben, so do yourself a favor and read what he has
to say.

Are They Fooling You?

Passive income. People throw that phrase around
a lot.

Let me tell you something - it's a lie.

The guys that make mon.ey 'passively' are all working.

The e-book guys are at their computers a number of
Hours per day, writing, tracking stats and connecting
with affiliates.

In fact, I'd guess the Four Hour Workweek guy (Tim
Ferris) spends more than 4 hours a week just working
on his blog.

My wife Holly does well online - to the tune of 5 figures
per month...but it ain't passive.

What about all that talk about systematizing stuff?

Nick and I are generally regarded as the 'systems gurus'
(is there really a guru of anything?) and we'd be the first
to say that having systems in place doesn't make business
passive.

We only need to go to our health club once a quarter, but
we still do work to ensure it's success.

So do yourself a favor and forget the myth of passive
income. Instead, focus on ways to make your life and
income generation easier.

What's the difference? It's the realization that you
can generate more income from less work - if you're
working smart.

But it ain't gonna be passive.

How do you work smarter?

:: Integrate systems to run everything you do.

:: Leverage your time, money, knowledge and other
available assets.

:: Focus only on the best opportunities.

What are the best opportunities? Based on what I'm
seeing, they're...

:: Fitness bootcamps
:: Low overhead facilities
:: Youth fitness / athletic development
:: Corporate fitness

I've talked at length about the first 3, but other
than a couple of blog posts this week, I don't
discuss corporate fitness much.

That's a mistake on my part.

We've probably averaged 4-5K per month from
corporate offerings since we've been in business
without ever really working on growing that side
of our businesses.

The opportunity to do a LOT more that that is available
to someone willing to take action.

Corporate Fitness 'Guru' (that word again) Greg Justice
is running a 6 week course that teaches you everything
you need to know to make it big in corporate fitness, and
he's limiting it to 25 spots.
He's already filled 12.

If you want to reserve your spot or ask Greg for more
Information, email him here at aycfit@gmail.com.

Corporate fitness isn't passive - but it's a great
opportunity that will allow you to leverage what you
do best for some big returns.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Greg has a corporate fitness location in NYC
(he's in Kansas City) and two more coming soon in
Miami and London. He's got this down to a science
and is ready to give you his step-by-step formula.

The Road To The Top

I spent the weekend with a bunch of the
best fitness pros in the world at the Chicago
Perform Better.

You know what?

None of them started at the top.

They were club trainers. They were unpaid or
practically unpaid coaches.

They took second jobs to make ends meet.

But they weathered the storm and now they're
some of the most successful professionals in
the world.

At the same time they were paying their dues and
climbing the ladder, there were thousands of other
trainers and coaches with similar opportunities available
to them.

But they weren't willing to do the work. They weren't
willing to pay their dues, and they weren't willing to
do the things that it took to be among the best.

The cream rose to the top - as it always does.

If you're like many of the fitness pros I talk to, you
probably are at a point in your career where it's time
to decide if you're going to be great - or if you're
going to settle for something else.

I can't decide that for you, but I can tell you that the
opportunity is there for the taking - if you're willing
to step up to the challenge.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

Corporate Fitness lately - so do yourself a favor

What’s Your Job?

Some people would tell you that your
just is simply to be the marketer of your
services.

Don't believe them. They're just marketers
themselves and it should probably give you
a clue about how important the service after
the sale is.

Your job is to help people get from where they
are to where they want to be.

For us, we help fitness professionals get from
the job, career, business and lifestyle they
currently have to the one they want.

We do it by teaching how to run a better
business, offering done-for-you business
models and providing coaching & live events.

But everything centers around that same premise
of getting fitness pros from where they are to
where they want to be.

For you, in most cases it's to get the client from
shape, level of performance or state of physical and
mental well being that they're in to the one they
want to be in.

And your job is to provide the best coaching, support,
motivation, accountability and resources to allow
them to achieve success.

Yes, you need marketing, sales and operational
systems - which are all built around your ability to
help people get from where they are to where they
want to be.

But make no mistake about what your job is.

Dedicated to your success -

Pat

P.S. - The price on www.bootcampdynamite.com goes
up $50 tonight - and this resource will help your
clients get better results - guaranteed.

P.P.S.- Nick and I will be at Perform Better in Chicago
from today through Sunday morning. If you're around,
be sure to say hi!

The Ultimate Hot Button

If you want to make selling training or camps
easy, then finding Hot Buttons is a good place
to start.

A Hot Button is that driving force that makes
someone take action NOW.

For most clients and campers it centers around
weight loss and self image.

When I was training clients and athletes regularly,
I also used deadlines as Hot Buttons.

I worked with a lot of athletes trying to get
scholarships or sign pro contracts. I've even
worked with my share of pageant participants.

If the athletes or pageant participants weren't ready
by a certain time - their window closed.

Deadline Hot Button.

Class reunions are great deadline Hot Buttons
too.

But there is one Deadline Hot Button that stands
above the rest and it can make you a lot of extra
income if you choose.

Are You Automatic?

If you want to truly build a business, you've
got to automate some things.

Too often we make things so dependent on
us that we get suffocated by a little success.

If you get sick - the show can't go on.

Want to go on vacation - no paycheck.

If everything relies on you, it's just a matter of
time before you get overwhelmed with stress
and what was once a career you were passionate
about becomes a burden.

But it really doesn't have to be that way...

You can pretty much outsource, delegate or
automate anything and everything if you choose.

Heck, Nick and I have only been at the heath club
we own 3 times since last November - so I know
it's possible.

You can automate your billing like so many Bootcamp
Blueprint members are doing with Volo.

You can outsource everything from phone calls to
web design.

You can even delegate the coaching of your camps
or the training of your clients if you choose.

But the key to all of these is having a systematic
approach.

You have to have systems in place to automate,
outsource or delegate anything.

You can develop phone scripts, email templates
and sales presentations to allow someone else to
take some of the work off your hands if you choose.

And if you want to delegate the coaching of some of
your bootcamps or group training sessions, then you
need to see what Bootcamp Guru BJ Gaddour has
developed here:

http://bootcampdynamite.com/

The best bootcamp delegation tool ever invented - bar
none.

So if you want to grow your business beyond your own
shadow, start looking for ways to automate a few of the
things you do.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Bootcamp Dynamite isn't only for delegating your
camps - it's perfect for taking the camps that you
personally run to the next level too!

Find A Need…

Nick, Jim and I made a quick trip to Philly
this weekend to present the business segment
of the first Kettlebell Athletics Certification
course.

Pam McElree and Jason Brown have been certifying
hundreds of trainers for the Equinox health club chain
for a while, but never did anything for fitness pros
not associated with Equinox.

Over time it became clear that there was a need for
the approach they take to providing Kettlebell
instruction. They not only teach the movements
that other certifying organizations teach, but they
also teach how to integrate Kettlebells into
programming along with other tools.

Something virtually all other Kettlebell organizations
either ignore or just skim over.

Since most all trainers or coaches that use Kettlebells
will also integrate other tools into their programs - there
was an obvious need.

Pam & Jason filled it.

That's what good business is - finding a need and
filling it.

What are the pressing needs in your market?

What problems do you have the knowledge and
passion to solve?

So if you're business isn't where you want it to be,
put it under the microscope and answer these two
questions:

1. Are you filling the needs of the market better
than your competition?

2. Are you effectively letting enough people know
that you are through networking, public speaking
and marketing?

If you're business isn't where you want it to be,
I'd guess that you answer 'no' to one of those
two questions.

Make that 'no' a 'yes' and watch your business grow.

Dedicated to your success -

Pat

filling it at the blog:

2 Things for You

I've got 2 things for you today. One is a list
of three business killers to avoid and the other is
a quick video from one of the rising stars in the
industry.

Here are three things to avoid:

Killer #1 is Complacency.

You can't keep things the same very long.

There must either be progress or regression.

Reasons to get excited or reasons to get frustrated.

To prevent complacency, you have to be a
positive-oriented critic, never satisfied, always
seeking something to improve.

You need to try to look at everything with fresh eyes
every day, and you'll keep finding plenty of opportunities
to improve.

The #2 Killer Is Negativity

If you are constantly only seeing and dwelling on
the negative, you will send your business zooming
into a slump.

Spend some time acknowledging the positive and
building on it!

The 3rd Killer Is Being Cheap

You have to strategically re-invest in your business.
You cannot plant once, then harvest every year.

Invest in education. Invest in marketing.

Invest in yourself. It will provide the best
ROI of anything you do!

And here is your video:

Do You Make Things Too Hard?

Today is my stepson Tyler's first day of summer
break so I thought I'd pass along something I've
witnessed from him that I suspect will benefit you.

See Tyler just doesn't ever seem to make things
more difficult than they should be.

When he gets home from school he automatically
does his homework and is actually a bit upset if we
keep him from it for any reason.

He wants to get it done so he can be free to play as
he chooses. He knows it will have to get done sometime
so he just does it first.

When it's his time for bed he tells Holly and me
instead of it being the other way around. He doesn't
want to be tired in the morning so he knows what he
has to do to prevent it.

There are a dozen other examples I could share of
ways Tyler tries to make things easier, but you get
the point.

Strangely, I think most people are just the opposite.

When they need to get something done - it gets put
off until the last minute.

They don't prepare to get the most out of each day
by planning or by focusing on things that yield the
most return.

Being successful doesn't have to be rocket science.
Often all it takes is getting out of your own way and
making it happen.

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Nick, Jim and I opened up a couple of One Day
Coaching groups at Fast Track for people to come to
Louisville and meet with us and a select few other
fitness pros to give them a blueprint of exactly what
they need to do in order to take their business to the
next level. We've got a couple of slots left, so if you
want to be considered, shoot me an email today as
I'm sure they'll go fast.

Want to Know What's Working?

At Fast Track I shared some amazing stories
about Bootcamp Blueprint members that are
killing it...here's a sample:

Ben Warstler has taken his camps from 75 members
to over 140 using Transformation Contests.

Michelle Ricketts just built a $7000 per month camp
by making her camps 'anti-bootcamp' and combining
a variety of types of training to set herself apart from
the heavy bootcamp competition in her area.

Donovan Owens added over $4157 to his monthly
income just by optimizing his schedule and then
followed Corporate Guru Greg Justice's strategies
and landed a deal that will add over 61K to his
bottom line.

Tyler English stopped wasting his time on a bunch of
low return activities and took his monthly income from
about $5000 to over $13,000 in 4 months.

Steve Krebs made one simple tweak in his scheduling
and added $3180 per month.

So here's what's working:

1. The get stuff done. As I've said over and over
(and learned from my buddy Dax Moy) - you
get paid for done.

2. They focus on high return activities - they don't
spend their time on stuff that won't make a big
impact.

3. They're part of a team. They all are Bootcamp
Blueprint members and they not only all came
to Fast Track - but they were some of the most
active people there, taking notes and helping
everyone else.

We're going to open Bootcamp Blueprint up again sometime
this summer but if you're ready to join the most successful
bootcamp owners in the world send me a personal email and
we'll consider you now instead of waiting for us to re-open.

Sure - you could wait until we re-open, but how much
mo.ney will that cost you;)

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

What Can You Learn From My Wife?

On Friday at Fast Track my wife Holly presented on
'building your tribe' - and I have to say, she killed it.

She was as nervous as could be, but you would have
never known it as she shared what she's better at than
everyone else in the industry at - relationship
marketing.

See - most every person I know that sells products or
services has customers. Even if they call them clients,
they still don't have a bond.

Holly has Fit Yummy Mummies.

I have to say that when that name first got tossed
around for her product I snickered a bit...but now I
see that her ladies think of themselves as Fit Yummy
Mummies like some people think of themselves as
Democrats, Catholics, Teamsters, Marines or
Ohioans. (Don't think I'm suggesting FYM is a religion,
Just follow along;))

It's part of their identity.

Do your clients feel like being part of your business
is truly part of their identity? Who they are?

Think I'm exaggerating? Holly had a FYM get together
which was not much more than a 45 min morning
Bootcamp and a shopping trip here in Louisville.

Women came from as far as Vermont and even Canada,
and it's not because Louisville is known for it's shopping.

Most fitness businesses couldn't get their clients to show
up for a client appreciation event if it was held 100 yards
from the client's house.

Now this isn't to brag about Holly - though I'm extraordinarily
proud of what she's accomplished. Nope - it's to get you
excited about taking the relationship you have with your
clients to the next level.

So here are a few tips from Holly to get you started:

:: Give them more than they ever expected. Overdeliver
at every opportunity.

:: Treat clients like friends. Call them or pull them aside
and take a personal interest. Let them know you're there
for them.

:: Get people involved - things like Transformation
Challenges are perfect for this.

:: Turn the spotlight on them. It's about them, not
you - so recognize them at every turn.

Apply this stuff in your business and you'll be amazed at
the results!

Dedicated to your success,

Pat

P.S. - Two more illustrations of how well this works...

:: When her ladies found out she was speaking at Fast
Track she received a barrage of emails and messages
wishing her luck.

:: Saturday in Toronto there was a FYM get together
completely independent of Holly. She had no idea
until she saw a YouTube video of it today.

Like I said - if you want your business to be iconic,
apply what Holly just suggested.

Did You Hear About This Yet?

I don't know if you've been on Facebook or Twitter
much over the past few days and heard about it,
but the first ever Fast Track To Fitness Mil.lions was
a huge success.

And while I'd love to tell you it was a success because
of me, Nick and Jim - that's not really the truth of the
matter.

It was a success because guys like Donovan Owens,
Ben Warstler and Tyler English shared how they've
built bootcamps with well over 100 clients.

It was a success because folks like Zach Even-Esh,
BJ Gaddour and Dave Schmitz shared the passion
that make them some of the most successful guys
in the industry.

I heard from dozens of fitness pros that told me this
was a career - even life changing event and we'll be
sharing lots of their takeaways and feedback over
the next few days.

The stories of how so many trainers have gone from
struggle to success were both inspiring and educational,
but one story really struck me...

A young lady named Julie whose business is just getting
going was so driven to attend Fast Track that she actually
slept in her car to attend.

That's the kind of dedication that will ensure Julie's
future success.

But what made this even more powerful to me was that
as soon as some of the trainers I mentioned earlier (and
a number of others) found out about this - they we're all
volunteering to pay for a room for Julie.

That's the type of family atmosphere Fast Track had.

No hierarchy where the presenters and 'elite' fitness
pros were only social with one another. Nope, just a
bunch of wonderful men and women sharing to help
one another.

I really couldn't be prouder to have played a small
part in it.

If you were in NJ with us...Thank You!

If you weren't able to attend this time, talk to someone
who was about their experience and then start making
plans to attend the next one.

Get ready for a great week because I'm going to share
some of the biggest takeaways from Fast Track - so
stay tuned...

Dedicated to your success -

Pat

P.S. - Make sure you check www.PatNickandJim.com all
week for tons of great stuff too!!!!
