Over the weekend Tyler, Holly and I went to my
hometown of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Portsmouth is an interesting place. Back in the
1920's and 30's it was a thriving industrial town.
There was even an NFL team that eventually
moved to Detroit and became the Lions.
At one point Portsmouth had about 70,000 people.
Today there are 20,000.
Just as in everything, things changed.
The industries that fueled the town's growth
started to die off.
Many of the good jobs were no longer available.
And the city didn't adapt.
See, a few people in the town had generated
significant wealth and stonewalled any new business
from coming into Portsmouth.
They were rich and had no interest in new competition.
While that might have worked out ok for the successful
few – a city is dying a slow death because of it.
So many businesses succumb to that same fate.
They get married to one way of doing things and when
that way stops working as well as it once did – they
aren't willing to adapt.
And everyone else passes them by.
Things change and you're either growing or dying.
Which do you choose?
Dedicated to your success –
Pat
