Fool’s Gold

In the past couple of days I've talked to
several trainers that are looking for more
campers and clients.

They're not close to where they want to be.

Strangely enough, they're primarily focused
on getting their leads from the internet.

Not the best idea.

Look – I think online marketing is a valuable
piece of the puzzle.

It ain't the whole puzzle.

Let me tell you a story.

Back when I ran a training company that contracted
with the largest Gold's Gym franchisee in the world.

That Gold's gym franchisee went out and bought a
CD with thousands of before and after pics to use
in their marketing materials.

Not people who worked out at their gym…just a CD
with great before and after's – that now people
thought were their members.

Shady, shady, shady.

So how's this relate to online marketing?

Because in any decent sized market there
are dozens, hundreds…even thousands of trainers
with websites, posting Craigslist ads and even
doing PPC.

How do they separate themselves?

The quality of their service? Nope.

Their personality, energy and passion? Nope.

Their track record, credentials or experience? Nope.

3 ways and 3 ways only:

1. Copy. Headlines, copywriting, etc.
2. Before and after pics.
3. Price.

That is a slippery slope.

That's why I talk so much about networking,
relationship marketing and public speaking.

Offline stuff.

Let me show you why:

http://www.fitpics.com/

At that site you can go get a bunch of fake before
and after's. Heck, their pic in the gallery at the
bottom of the home page has been used on so
many scammy acai berry sites it's scary.

Anyone can pay a copywriter on elance and grab
some before and after's.

People steal Holly's before and after's all the time.

The prospect will never know the difference.

So don't rely only on online marketing. Use it
as one of several things you do.

Combine offline and online. Get out from
behind the computer.

It's the fastest and most effective way to grow
your business.

Dedicated to your success –

Pat
