Secrets of a (Formerly) Broke Trainer

I wanted to change things up a bit and share
an interview I did with one of our Mastermind
Members, Zach Even-Esh. I know you'll enjoy it.

Here is part one:

1. How have you been able to go from a $5 per
session trainer to a guy with a six figure
business and multiple streams of income?

ZE: This could end being a book all in itself.

But, I did a few specific things that most
people don't do, or simply won't do, and it
helped me finally become a 6 figure trainer.

A) Leverage: I leveraged everything I possibly
could.

All the workouts we did in my parents backyard
I took pictures of with a digital camera. The
workouts were also recorded. I was able to
leverage all the pics, stories and workouts
into my first e book which I was selling for
$19.95.

I remember being scared shitless when Jim Labadie
told me to charge $27 for it! I had sold 5 copies
in a day once, so I ALMOST made $100 in one day
and man was I on Cloud 9!

That little e book was the beginning of me "making
mo.ney in my sleep". My first sale came from someone
in the UK and I was stoked like crazy! I get a rush
every time I look back to those days!

B) MAJOR ACTION! I was very aggressive in going
after my target market and did a lot of stuff for
FR.EE. This allowed me to develop a powerful
relationship with a select few places that I
still work with today.

It put me in front my target market on a regular
basis which made it easier for me to grow my
business fast. I collected e mails and names at
each fr.ee seminar, I gave fr.ee handouts,
offered more fr.ee seminars and quickly pronounced
myself as the go to guy for training wrestlers
in NJ.

C) Investment in Education: I purchased a lot of
products to help me grow my training business
and online business. I ALWAYS took action with
them and put to use the information.

I found mentors and offered to pay them for phone
time or face time. Alwyn Cosgrove and Joe DeFranco
were my first mentors, and ironically, I was their
first students and today, both of these guys are a
few of my closest friends that goes way beyond
business.

I saw how Alwyn had the best gym in the world,
I knew if I invested X dol.lars with him I would
grow it into XXXXX. I saw Joe DeFranco trained
athletes in a small closet storage space. I had
a garage. I wanted to leverage what I had and
I invested X with Joe which gave me a return
of XXXXXX Dol.lars.

I always told myself that if I invested in a
product I had to earn it back 10 times in the
first month. That way I put some pressure on
myself to take a lot of action. I always took
a lot of action with those words in my mind.

Many people either don't invest in their education
and if they do, they do nothing with the new
information they have.

I took massive action. Work ethic was something
I didn't have to learn, I already had it!

2. You've built a great gym on a shoestring. How
have you done it?

ZE: This was not by choice. I was in debt when I
started, so purchasing expensive equipment was out
of the question.

When I started, "functional" training was the
BIG craze.

I remember looking at machines on the low end
for $10,000!!

I had no choice so I bought used equipment from
the classifieds from gyms that shut down and
went out of business. I made a few sandbags and
used stones.

I never knew it would work so well but man it
freaked everyone out, including myself! My Dad
welded a few sleds together for me. I would have
3 sleds in my trunk, 3 sandbags and I would go
to playgrounds, parks, backyards or the athletes
would meet at my house.

The results were awesome. I leveraged these
methods and filmed my first DVD, hiring a kid
from the local high school to shoot it for me.
It cost me maybe $200 at the time and I remember
selling 20 DVDs in 1 day!

That was a BIG goal of mine and I remember
telling everyone I was going to sell 20 DVDs in
one day at a seminar Jim and Ryan Lee hosted.
The name of the seminar was called 'Fitness
Prosperity' and it was from 8 PM – 4 AM!

I had a great time that night and we ate at
the local Diner afterwards. Stephen Holt, Todd
Scott, Dan Huff, Joe Stankowski, Scott Colby,
Jason C. Brown and many others were there.

It was the beginning of an awesome time in
my business and I was VERY proud to do what
I was doing!
